Portofino Balconies

We are staying in August. We reserved a bay view and requested a balcony. The rep said she would put down that we were requesting an upper floor, since that would make it more likely that we would get a balcony.

I know there are very few balconies at the Portofino. I plan to beg upon check in. However, because I am a Loew's card holder, we get a free upgrade if available. I guess that means they would upgrade us to a deluxe.

Here are my questions:

1. Is it true that the balconies are on the upper floors at the Portofino? If so, which floors?

2. How is the view from the upper floors? If a good bay view is important, are we better off with a lower floor even if it means no balcony?

3. If they offer to upgrade us to a deluxe, should we decline since deluxe rooms do not have balconies? In other words, does the balcony outweigh the bigger room?

Thanks for your help. It's our first time at the Portofino.

I stayed there in a room off to the side.. (AP discount area...) and some rooms on the upper floors everywhere had balconys.....

Many did not.. I would go with a balcony.. cause chances are you will be located near the Boat and have a great view of Universal....

Me and my family stayed at the Portofino twice and both times we somehow got a balcony without request. The first time we had a bay view with a balcony which was STUNNING. I wish I had a picture to show you. The view is really spectacular. Don't get a lower floor. The rooms we had were standard non-smoking rooms with 2 beds. I think we were on the third floor both times. Make sure that your room has a bay view! The second time we were there we got stuck with a "garden view", which was roads and some grass.

PS-The balcony isn't that big of a deal. They aren't very big. You won't be able to fit a chair out on it. It is nice to just relax on, though.
