Port Orleans French Quarter

We're consideing staying at Port Orleans French Quarter on our next trip to WDW in 2008. We've always stayed at the Wilderness Lodge but with the ever increasing rates, we find we're slowly being priced out of the Wilderness Lodge and find ourselves having to consider other, less expensive hotels. We've never stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter and are curious about the resort. We'd be looking at being there in November/December 2008. Any information you could give us would be greatly appreciated.

We will be staying at POR for the 1st time in november. And I am looking forward to walking over or taking the boat to FQ. I have heard nothing but great things about the two on these forums. Everyone is really helpful. I cannot wait to stay somewhere but the values for a change....and it seems like we are going to have a great time at POR. If you do go for the FQ, I am sure you will love it!

I am so glad you started this thread! I will be staying the FQ for the first time Dec 2007. Reading your feedback, I am feeling really good about my decision.

Maybe having another opinion why I choose it would give you little extra peace of mind. IMO it is an affordable option without loosing the extras. I am not sold on ever staying at a Disney value resort. POFQ&R do not have as many extras like the Disney luxury resorts, but more than the other mods and value resorts. Other Mods do not have a theme pool and thought my daughter would really enjoy the waterslide. It is smaller and still convenient. The boat ride to DTD and the carriage rides. They have the water sprites, I think disney calls them something else now. (those little boats for two.) And the beignets (have to admit it!) There is also a treasure cruise for kids that is not available at many of the other resorts. When I called Disney to make my reservation, I talked to an EXTREMELY helpful castmember, I was all set on the CBR. I used to work there and it is my comfort zone. The CM sold me on the FQ. I am very much looking forward to my trip and my first stay away from CBR.
Yup, beignets and water slide were very nice. Also live music in lobby at night.

I think you will be very happy staying at FQ. I've stayed at FQ and Riverside, and I have to say FQ has better themeing, and is more compact in size so its nice on your feet after a long day in the parks! I will have to say, Riverside has better food options (and the main pool at riverside is neater in my opinion). But the good thing is, Riverside is easily accessible from FQ and vice versa. So in conclusion I would have to say FQ would be a solid choice!

Thanks for the input everyone. We've decided to switch from the WL and give POFQ a try on our next trip. It's just the two of us, my mom and me, and we're looking forward to trying out a different resort.

We were between staying at POFQ or the Contemporary (stayed there in 03), but thought that POFQ had too many options that were better than Pop and at the same par as the Contemporary to pass up.

IMO when comparing the amenities at the Contemporary to POFQ I don't think I will be missing anything except being able to walk to the Magic Kingdom. However, paying an extra $1,000 for that premium is not worth it.

Hot Tubs & Great Pool, Water Recreation, Decent size rooms, Great theme, Good Transportation etc. I can deal without having an interior room door and marble countertops and leave the deluxe pricetag behind.

I'm sure you will love it! I haven't stayed at WL so I can't compare the 2 but I know that I loved POFQ and will stay there again.

Have a great time!

POFQ is my favorite, great small resort, makes me sometimes wonder why I joined DVC, but I am sure in the long run I will be happy.

Ah, Port Orleans: French Quarter - such a great resort!! My wife and I stayed there on our honeymoon in 2005 and swore we would definitely be staying there again. What others have already said is right - the transportation is great, the food court is excellent (for being a food court; and yes, you have to try the beignets!), and the atmosphere of the resort is peaceful. I don't remember it ever being noisy. Also, for the time of the year we were there (first week of June), it wasn't very busy. All in all, a wonderful experience for a moderate resort. You'll be happy you decided to stay there.

I paid my deposit for FQ last night! I'm just so happy to finally have my trip booked. Now I just have to get through 368 more days.
