Port Orleans French Quarter to reopen in March

The Walt Disney World Resort announced Friday that the multimillion dollar renovation of Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter Resort is complete.

The opening will create more than 200 job openings at French Quarter for a variety of positions including housekeeping, recreation and the front desk.

The resort is scheduled to reopen on March 21 and Disney has started taking reservations for the resort.

French Quarter closed on May 4, 2003, as part of a complete room renovation for Disney’s Port Orleans Resort. The freshly renovated rooms have all new furniture, new carpeting, new wall coverings and remodeled bathrooms.

French Quarter opened in May, 1991 and has 1,008 rooms.

Does this mean Riverside is going to close down for renovations?

Not sure about Riverside. I was there last May at Riverside when FQ shut down. They originally said 1 - 1 1/2 yrs for the rehab. They got it back up very quick.

They predicted the long shut-down during a time when the travel statistics were still looking bad....

I read that Riverside would close for renovation as soon as POFQ would reopen... so I guess it will close sometilme this year.

Port Orleans Riverside will be rehabbed in phases. It will never completely close down like the French Quarter did. It's just the number of rooms available will be reduced at the Riverside for the next year.

It's good to hear that the Port Orleans will be reopening. I've stayed on the Dixie Landings side many times over the years, but have never gotten the chance to stay at Port Orleans.

Anyone know what was done in the rehab?

Was anything updated in the rooms or just exterior?

The rooms were redone with new furniture, carpeting, drapes and beadspreads. The bathrooms were redone as well. There was some mention of landscaping changes as well.

I'm pretty sure the pics of Port Orleans on the Disney web site aren't of the new rooms, but I could be wrong.

It is funny how that link does that. Work your way through the resrt section of the disneyworld.com site and you will see a picture of the new POFQ room.

Does anyone know if the restuarnts will be open as well?? I remember hearing that they cloesd when the riverisde of french quater were consalidated.
