It seems that this is oficial now......

POFQ is not taking any more bookings beyond Nov 2nd, the resort will be closing until further notice.

This bites POFQ is my favorite resort.

Steve, have you heard anything about this........are they possibly reopening in the future?

I am sure it will reopen. This is only for the period of low attendance.

When I stayed at PO in late August, it was empty. Their were whole buildings empty. So, I don't think this move is a surprise, but it does suck.

I just cant belive Disney is getting hit this badly!
When the real world is so dangerous Id have thought people would have flocked to Disney for some escapism. We are!

I am not surprised to hear they are closing hotel rooms. I work for a hotel company that has over 2000 hotels world wide and we are having problems filling bedrooms.

The group in London UK are closng whole floors becuase of the lack of people staying.

SomeUK competitors are cutting back on staff.

Its acrazy time

Although my Wife and I are planning to go back to disney next year alot of people we know are staying away

This is really not that surprising is it. I mean Port Orleans as it is now has a huge number of rooms, it stands to reason that if they are not going to even open Pop Century, then other resorts are going to be hit too.

DisJosh, I booked our vacation back in August, beginning November 27th, staying at POFQ (OUR favorite place). I called down to wdw, and was told that although nothing has been officially announced, they will be re-locating people to other moderate resorts after November 3rd. THIS SUCKS!!! People need to understand that staying away from wdw (or any vacation destination) is only making it worse, not better. Has no one ever heard of the "trickle-down effect"? Sure it starts with wdw employees being laid off, then people in the Orlando area, then in Florida, etc, etc. Although I,m bummed about POFQ, I still can't wait to get to wdw. I only wish others would not play into the hands of the terrorists and stay home out of fright! And i hope future closings are held to a minimum. LIVE FREE!!!!!

too bad about disney closing hotels. perhaps the company would be better off following the lead of other orlando hotels and offer discounted rates.

i just back and paid $29 a night to stay at a courtyard because disney wouldn't extend to me the $49 a night rate at all-star resorts that was being offered in select markets up until sept. 30. i would have paid a little more to stay on property, but they demanded the $79 a night rate.

i was talking to a guy who works in the hotel business in orlando and he told me he's going to work for the opryland hotel, which is scheduled to open in january. and he said that property, which is a huge convention hotel, is booked at 100% through 2002 and 90% in 2003. so, somebody must be doing something right.

I agree some hotels are doing well. I currently work at a conference orientated hotel and we currently operate very high occupancy rates.

The problem is the hotels who rely on the leisure traveller and tourists who are seeing vey low levels of occupancy.
