What if you end up getting to the port earlier then your scheduled check in time? Can you check in early or do you have to wait till your designated time?

As long as the terminal isn't full, you can go in and check in. If it is full, you will just have to wait a little while until it clears. Your boarding number will be a little higher based on your selected arrival time, but that's it.
