POR Question

Helpful Disney friends: DH and I are staying at POR in December -- our reservation is for a pool view room. Looks like there are two different themes at the resort -- alligator/mansion. Does either one totally outdo the other? We're torn!

I know requests and preferences are not guaranteed, but I'd love to hear your opinions as this will be our first time there. Thanks!

It varies, but what it comes down to is, Alligator Bayou is the section most closest to the Main Building/ Food Court/ Main Bus Depot (buildings 14-18 especially). The whole resort is very scenic and worth taking a stroll through. Depending on the time of day, (and year) the pools by the rooms are a little more quiet and less crowded then the main pool that draws more people and kids to it, and has a bar.

Thanks! Proximity to the main area is important to us, we will check out buildings 14-18.

I'm sure the answer for which outdoes the other is purely a matter of personal taste.

We love AB! The woodsy feel, meandering paths, little swampy areas with big frogs croaking. The mansions have a more formal feel with more open spaces and manicured gardens and fountains. Both lovely, but in different ways.

I'd suggest looking at picture of the room theming to help you decide. Whichever you choose, definitely have a walk around both areas once you're there. :)

Have a great trip!

Magnolia Bend is my fav building. Close to everything

Just a heads-up, "Magnolia Bend" is the overall name of the section that encompasses all four mansions.

"Magnolia Terrace" is one of those four mansions. (And I agree, it's the most convenient of the Mansions. Close to the East Depot, next to a quiet pool, and a short walk past the main pool to the food court.)

Sorry, I meant terrace thanks for catching that. I stayed in building 85 and loved it

I would have to go with the Mansions, especially Magnolia Terrace. We stayed in a building that was really close to the East Depot, and a pretty decent walk to the pool and main building. Helpful hint if you are travelling with very young children or older folks who can't take the extra walking after long days at the parks, you can use the WDW buses to get to the main (South) Depot. Just wait for the next bus to come along and ask if it's stopped at the South Depot yet. Get on and take it to the South Depot and now a quick walk to the food court area, you can do the same with the return trip to the depot nearest your room

We stayed in a Royal Room in the mansions one trip and in a regular room in alligator bayou for another trip. I enjoyed both, but for atmosphere outside of the room, I preferred alligator bayou. We enjoyed the walk from room to pool and/or main building. My then 5 year old daughter loved the pull down bed that she had in the bayou (although nothing tops the fireworks headboard in the royal room!)!!!

We stayed in a preferred room (building 14 I think) in AB on our last visit, it was great! a quick shortcut through the car park to the main bus stop and a 2 minute walk to the food court so great! We are staying in the mansions, with a courtyard/garden view in October. Am so excited I love POR. The food court for breakfast is so convenient with lots of yummy choices!!

I agree, RS has one of my favorite food courts on property

At check-in, ask for a room closest to the main pool complex ( do not use online check-in). Also, I would not pay "premium" prices for a preferred room at POR- just MHO.;)

I have been wondering about online check-in -- what are the pros/cons of it? Sounds like you have a better chance with special location requests if you don't do it?
