Hey everybody, my boyfriend and I are planning a short trip, 4 days, to Disney Dec 11-15. We saw something about Pop Warner festivities that week. Is this a major crowd draw? Are there going to be 10,000 young boys there!?!?
I was with the Bedford NH Bulldogs last December they were the NE jr pee wee champs. There are 8 teams invited per adge division. There are 4 age divisions. Jr Pee Wee being the youngest at 10 year old. Each team had less than 20 kids. At the same time there are cheerleader and dance compititions going on. Football teams have to stay at All Star sports or Carribean Beach. Unless you are staying at one of those hotels then you would not notice the teams. Disney offer this at that time because it is one of the slow weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
No it has never affected crowds and we always go around that time. This year we will be there 12/5-12/16 again. The only thing it really affects is the value resorts and the bus use at those resorts. Other than that the park crowds are low and its our fave time of year to go. Y'all will love it so no worries!!!
That time of year from my experience has been the best time to go. I was there last year Dec 4-10 and didn't have trouble with the kids at all. Christmas is the best time of year to go! Amazing decorations, great weather, and unbelievably low crowds!
We have went to Disney several times during Pop warner week. If you stay away from the value resorts you will be fine. Sometimes there is spill over into the moderate resorts. In the past they have stayed at POR, CSR and CBR. You rarely see the teams in the parks during the day b/c that is when they compete and practice. You see them around the parks more so at night b/c of this. But honestly any teams we have encountered have been very respectful. I will admit the girls and their cheering in line sometimes did get annoying, but then I remembered I was oncce there age too!
Believe it or not, the Pop Warner kids never presented a problem at the parks. THE CHEERLEADERS, however, (some. not all) that I observed, were being rude and obnoxious, to the point, where I witnessed one group of young ladies, in uniforms, start a chant of 1-2-3 and then run into, and knocking down, a middle age woman who was having her photo taken, by a Photo Pass CM in Epcot. They then ran into the park laughing hysterically. If I could have caught them, I would have wrung their necks. This was not an isolated incident. I was fortunate enough to be at the World in 2009 and 2011 during the Pop Warner week. Having said all that, the cheerleaders paled in comparison to the South American tour groups that arrived later in both weeks. . Really, all in all, it was a very, very small part of my trips, just sad that some people have little or no consideration of others. Have a good time and don't worry about the other groups.
