Pop Turner?? Crowds early Dec

I was listening to a podcast that said something about crowds during something they called Pop Turner (I think that's what they called it).

What is that and how does it effect park crowd levels in early December? Touringplans says the second week in Dec should be golden...

It's Pop Warner, as in football/cheerleading kids having their tournaments. We found it didn't affect the crowds especially during the day since their competitions are held then. But depending on which resort you are staying at their behavior can sometimes be questionable.

Pop Warner will not have much of an effect on the parks but they have been know to ruin a resort stay or two. Avoid the All Stars especially Sports. They will also be put in Port Orleans Riverside but problems there seem to happen much less frequently.

I was in WDW during the end of Pop Warner last year. I only really saw them once.
I was entering the new counter service restaurant in the Mexico pavillion. Suddenly a large group entered the area. Fortunately I was already in line. There were 20-30 of them trying to figure out how to order and how to pay. I ordered, got my food and left while they were still blocking the line and trying to manage their group. The people behind them were irritated as they monopolized the whole place.

We have been to Disney in December 2x's not during Pop Wrander week, and have never ran into any issues. I do suggest that you avoid staying at the all-star resorts thou, as this is where the players stay so those resorts will be super packed!

The games and competitions are held during the day so you will rarely see any teams in the parks at that time. You will incounter them at the parks and night and DTD, but honestly you will not see and increase in crowds b/c of it.

Typically the first few days they you will see no Pop Warner groups at all except a few in the evening before their (supposed) curfew. You will start to see an increase of them as the week progresses and they become eliminated from competition.

Completely doable, but as already mentioned. Beware of the All-Stars. I can get a little crazy.

I disagree the first 2 years we went it was during the whole time they were there No problems with them what so ever at Music then stayed at pop in 2010 during their time and NO problems there either. Like said SPORTs and POR get the POP Warner kids and for the most part you will never see any of them and they stay with their sponsers when you do see them

I was in Wdw the 1st week of December 09 and we ran into a few packs of cheerleaders from time to time.

They were a little loud and I recall one of them getting talked to by a cast member for pulling on one of the Characters tails.

I also overheard someone at Lunch talking about getting woken up by a pack of girls doing their cheer routine at some ungodly hour and he was NOT happy.

We really didnt have to deal with them much But I can see how people would get aggrivated.

We were there in Dec last year. We saw a "pack" of cheerleaders one night while we were waiting for a bus at MK. It was late and they looked exhausted, they made a half effort to cheer their way to their line, but it was far from disruptive...really more sad than anything. We saw quite a few parents associated with cheer groups the day we went to AK and while a few of the moms were a bit more vocal than the crowd around them, it too wasn't really a bother. I still wouldn't want to stay wherever they're staying.

Thank you for reminding me about the obnoxious week of cheer/football. Please know that I have 6 children and I would be mortified if I knew they acted in public the way some of these children do. The cheer groups in particular seemed to think everyone would enjoy hearing them cheer their way through the parks. I can't fault the chaperones as there did not seem to be one adult present to monitor their behavior. (That might be part of the problem right there.) However, many of us do not want to hear idiotic cheers as we try to enjoy the parks. It was very annoying at Fantasmic one night. Fortunately we were staying at the Yacht Club and didn't have to experience the nighttime antics.
All that being said, it is still Disney and we had a great time. We just tried to avoid the packs of kids. I will say, we did not encounter a lot of boys.

Which resort was that?? They were not at Music or POP.

Pop Warner are at AS Sports and PO in the heaviest concentrations, but there a lot of groups spread throughout Music, Movies and Pop. There are even some groups located in the some deluxes.

I am not sure where you got the info that there are no groups in any other resort.

As a group, they seem to be poorly behaved. From the competitors to thier chaperones, many have do regard for others around them. There have been some incredible reports on here from people that have been woke up in the middle of the night, threaten by drunk chaperones and kids cheering at the top of their voices in ride queue's. These facts are hard to hide. I personally cannot imagine they are all bad. I have seen many groups well behaved and enjoying the parks as well as have been in a queue where security had to come in and escort a group out.

I would hope that Disney will work with Pop Warner to get them to better monitor their own curfew. This would help elminate many of the problems.

All teams will observe a 10:00 P.M. Curfew. As such, all players must be in their assigned sleeping rooms by 10:00 P.M. or players, coaches, the team and/or association shall be subject to disciplinary action including but not limited to forfeiture of past or future game decisions, suspension, removal from Disney property, financial penalties and/or permanent removal from Pop Warner.
However, participants accompanied by their designated chaperones that are at least 21 years or older who are returning from organized team activities (including without limitation themepark excursions, group dinners, or the Pop Warner Wednesday night Party) outside of their hotels shall be excused from such curfew but MUST be immediately escorted by such chaperones to their rooms upon returning to their hotels. To clarify, when on All-Star or Port Orleans Property, ALL participants MUST be in their rooms by 10 P.M. regardless of whether their competition has begun, is ongoing or is completed Any players found outside their assigned rooms past 10:00 P.M. while they are still registered as a Pop Warner group shall be subject to disciplinary action along with their coaches, teams, and/or associations as stated above. Pop Warner National, Regional and Event Staff shall be conducting daily checks to ensure compliance. .

I Have to say. Im very close to someone whos daughter cheers.

I cant begin to tell you how many times Ive seen this sweet , caring woman FORCE her child to do her entire cheer routine for people.
Holidays, bbq's, the beach...Its unbelievably annoying and The poor kid dosent really want to do it !!

Of course This woman knows the entire routine and "helps" her poor kid By standing next to her and doing the routine too........:hurl::dazzle:

Its just awful !!
