Pop Century: Standard or Preferred?

It's already been said, but we stayed standard at Pop, got the bottom floor in 70's, very close to the buses, just had to walk across the medium sized parking lot. It wasn't horrible at all.

I've stayed at POP in standard rooms twice before and never made a room request. The first I was in the 80's facing the parking lot which was actually kind of great because we rented a car and were super close to it. The second we were lucky and got a lake view. I'm staying again in December and booked a preferred room this time. The main reason is because of the addition of refillable mugs with the dining plan since my last visit - I want to be close to the main building to be able to get my coffee sooner in the mornings. Yes. That's worth an extra $100 to me.:geek:

Last time I stayed at POP we payed the extra for a preferred room with pool view. We were in the 50s, in the furthest building away from the food court and transportation, on the top floor, and in the room the furthest from the elevators. I definitely did not feel like it was worth the extra money!

I have stayed at Pop more times than I care to count. I would say that paying a few extra bucks for preferred room is well worth it, usually it puts you in the 60's building right by the pool. After a long day at the parks that loooong walk back to your room in the 50's, 80's, or 90's buildings is sheer torture. Don't get me started on taking that walk multiple times after spending all day at the parks to fill your resort mug, get a meal, etc...

Its ultimately your call on whether its worth it, but take into account that what doesn't seem that bad on a normal day will be magnified 10 fold after walking/standing for 5-6 hours straight in the Florida heat.

I prefer the Values over all other resorts, and I will almost always try to book a preferred (but not a pool view) just to trim down the walking distance.

But I will take a standard room in order to book a discounted rate or if it's the only thing I can get at any Value. For my few stays at a non-preferred, I really had no complaints, and I actually enjoy walking the Value resorts at night anyway.

Honestly, there is no such thing as a "view" at a moderate or value resort. The view is out the front window where people will walk by, stare, and be intrusive. The only difference between standard and preferred is the distance from the main building.
