Pop Century Resort

Hey folks,

I am going to be visiting Walt Disney World in early June this year , but all my other trips I have taken to WDW I've stayed in the EPCOT resort area.

Searching for a value, I figure I'd give Pop Century a chance.
Can anyone tell me their experiences at Pop? Pros, cons, how the rooms or the pool is? Also, how tough is it to get to the parks and stuff with just the buses (being in the EPCOT area we had boats, walkways, etc). Would I be better off renting a car?

Any information would be great, thanks!

That seems odd to me. We have stayed at the PoP and found the walls to be well insulated against noise intrusions. Even screaming infants have not been able to disturb our time at the PoP.

Pop is very well insulated BETWEEN rooms, i.e. you generally don't hear toliets flushing or TV's going like you can at the All-Stars, *but* they aren't very insulated well to the OUTSIDE.

I could hear people using the keycard and opening the door next to mine so clearly I thought they were coming into mine. Kids yelling outside are loud - in the rooms, not so much.

I love Pop, wouldn't stay anywhere else - but this is the one thing I've noticed that is a downside.

see, I read on Allears reviews that one of the major problems is that the in-between walls are the ones you can hear through, nothing had been written about the outer ones. Guess I'll find out in May.

I love Pop, we stayed in Feb '04 & Jan '05...first in 70's then in 50's. There are 3 pools, all of which are shaped and themed and very cool. And when we went in the winter they were heated which was nice when it was a bit chilly.

Food court is great but pricey, as is everything at WDW, lol

Bus system and walking is better than the All Stars, as the busses only make one stop, and the layout is slightly different than the All Stars...they learn through mistakes. Also, the gift shop and food court is one giant building, which I really like.

See, that's what I've found at All-Stars, but not at Pop.

I'm sure it just depends on how noisy those around you are, but I didn't hear a single instance of room-room noise the last time I was there, and I was looking for it too.

I could hear things outside easily, but not between rooms.

I'll have to pay attention again on my trip in a few weeks.

I stayed at POP last July/August and thought it was alright. I said I wouldn't stay there again, but my next trip is booked and guess where I'm staying...POP (I'm not paying so I had no choice).

We heard noises outside the room all night with kids running around the halls and could even hear people still in the pool (after 2-3am).

We stayed in the 80's building (next to the giant walkman) and could see the pool. Walking wasn't bad to the main building or to the buses at all.

I stayed at Pop twice and liked it very much, definitely much better than All Stars. I didn't have a problem with noise in between rooms at all. Unfortunately, kids don't realize how loud they are when talking so you can hear them through the door in the morning. I have found this in all levels of the hotels in disney, not much you can do about it except I bring earplugs with me to wear at night so I don't get awakened by anyone walking by the room. One thing that really annoys me though is that some parents feel it is perfectly okay to let them run up and down the hallways in the morning which is very inconsiderate.

I thought the food prices were reasonable. Ithink the most expensive dinner was in the $8 range.

It really depends on where you are coming from. I too find the prices on food at WDW quite reasonable - they are pretty close to what I'd pay at home for similar fare. In fact, for comparison, a Big Mac at McDonalds in DTD costs exact same amount as one from my local McD's.

For a combo meal (chicken strips or burger/fries) $6-8 is what I'd pay for fast food, and for a nice steak in a decent sit-down restaurant is between $17-25 - which is what you pay at all but the pricest eateries at WDW.

Of course, I don't eat out three meals a day at home (though some days I am so busy it does happen, LOL) and when you multiply the cost times multiple family members it really adds up for anyone - but without those factors, the food prices at WDW are really about what you'd expect in most metropolitan areas, or in certain regions like the North East where things just cost more anyway. Ask someone from NYC or even NY State - the prices at WDW likely seem a bargain to them since it's hard to walk out of even a "diner" type restaurant in NYC with a sandwich and drink for under $20.
