Pop Century Refurbishment

Disneytouristblog shows a pic of how the new flooring and adding of a light blue color to the wall gives it a bit more color to the room

They seem to have slowed down a fair bit. I was in building 2 in May and they did practically the entire ground floor of building 1 in the week we were there and started on building 2 the day we were checking out.

Checked in today and got one of the refurbished rooms. I definitely think it's a big improvement. I like the floor decoration and hope they implement similar things resorts places (it's not the same texture as the normal floor, but hard so clearly made with cleaning in mind). It really goes a long way to make the room feel less bland.
What building were you in?

Imagineering was in the lobby a few months ago poking around, seemingly because they intend to redo the lobby at some point. It was late March I'm pretty sure... So even after this the property isn't done renovations, though it's more of a long-term thing I bet.

Looks like there is possibly some work remaining. In my opinion, shadowboxes are dated and "grandmotherly". Probably because my grandmother had them all over her house. 😄 Time to move on to something different.
Obviously they are taking the minimalist route with just icons and each decade will feature the Fab Five since we already see Daisy and Minnie represent the 50's and 60's..Donald, Mickey, and Goofy will be the 70's, 80's and 90's for the rest of the wall...

Waiting to see what the finished product is. The shadow boxes were cool but everything in them were faded and needed replaced, so I assumed they were not coming back. If Disney knows what they’re doing then maybe a small amount of them will return somewhere, either behind the desk or in the kids waiting area. Let’s see…

Incase anyone wanted to see what down grade they did to the check in area removing the shadow boxes and such...Here it is..

I am SHOCKED, given what I heard was going on that they kept the desks. Honestly they look like basic standard Marriott Courtyard desks, which is not my cup of tea for this price point. Me and everyone else working there (including as far as I can see every CM in that vid), were under the impression they were getting rid of the desks completely and maybe having a table or two. So good on Disney for not folding on that point.

Faded? Needing replacement? They were all historical items, stretching back decades before the building was even built, and for a good chunk of them, before MK/WDW even existed. They weren't exactly things thrown together by imagineers, but curated specifically and bought up locally (or loaned by then-CMs). I do have a bit of an attachment to them because I remember spending quite a bit of time either looking at them or talking to guests about their contents. I thought they were perhaps one of the few unique things the lobby had (Unless you wanted to count the map stands which were rather ugly and superfluous).

The wall wrap is ugly and generic for Disney standards, and continues to make me think that they are going to All Star-ify a place they've been charging a premium for since skyliner opened. It's a downgrade from a thematic perspective certainly.
