Pop Century questions

Hey everyone we are staying at Pop Century in April. It will be our first time staying at Disney although I know its a few months away (175 days) but I do have a few questions. When does the first bus leave POP to go to MK? We want to make sure we are there first thing. Also I realize POP has its own bus service however is there a better way to get to MK?

I think the buses start about an hour or so before the MK opens. So if the MK opens at 8am that day, you should be able to get a bus by 7am. possibly sooner, someone else will have to verify it.

As for other transportation, you can always call for a cab. I think a cab ride from POP to MK is around $20. We did this when we visited the Poly and didn't want to bus hop all over the resort. I don't particularly like to pay extra when the buses are free, but there is the convenience factor that makes the extra money worth it.

agreed to one hour prior to opening and unless you have a car the bus is fine but a warning going on late night or EMH for the morning the bus can be crowded with a long line so if MK opens at 8 and you want to be there i would say be at the bus station by 630

And before MK-specific buses start running, there will be "Character Breakfast" buses that will take you wherever you need to go. Those start sometime between 630 and 7am.

If you choose a taxi, have them take you to the Contemporary and walk over to the MK from there. Taxis can't go to the Magic Kingdom itself, so if you say "Magic Kingdom" they'll take you to the taxi stand at the TTC.

Thanks everyone. Maybe I'll just speak to someone at the resort the night before going to MK. Getting up early is not an issue just want to make sure we get there early enough.

That's good to know about the taxi's. We just did a taxi drive for the first time ever last week and it was only from a resort to another resort. i did not know they won't go directly to the MK. I will let the cousin know. :)

I am sure you will be fine. Just look the night before (on the schedule posted on the tv) for what time the park opens. I have done the park opening before because I wanted to see the opening ceremony. As long as you are there at least 20 minutes before, you shouldn't miss anything.

Again, if the park opens at 8am, get on the bus by 7am and you should be there in about 15-20 minutes if that.

Have fun!

I would get in line for the bus at 7:45 at least for a 9am opening. Several times I think 8 is early enough and there's already a line, and then comes 2 scooters (not that I have anything against) and I end up missing the beginning of the show. Remember it usually starts 10 minutes prior and you have security and ticket lines to get through. For me everything seems to take longer than I think.

The fastest way to get to MK is to take a cab from Pop to Contemporary and walk to MK.

The buses run at least one hour before park opening. Some run earlier because of character meals.

Disney's answer is always to allow 60-90 minutes to travel from one place to another. Sometimes the hotels will say the busses begin running an hour before the park opens, but they may begin running even earlier than that. I'd leave my room 75-90 minutes before the park opened. If you really, so much!, want to see the opening show, make it 90 minutes. :)

The bus will take you right to the MK. You won't have to take a monorail or ferry. You will need to go through security lines (unless you have no bags) when you get to the park and wait to get in.

Oh, my gosh. Don't pay a cab driver to take you from the Poly to the TTC. It is a shorter walk to the TTC than it is to walk to and from the cab. There is a tiny path from the Poly to the TTC. It's about 20 steps, through the bushes. :) You could also take the boat, which skips the TTC and takes you right to the park.

I think you confused my meaning... or if I am the one confused then my apologies. :D

We were not going to the MK. We visited the Polynesian (our normal resort of choice) but were actually staying at Pop Century. The fare for that trip (Poly to Pop) was about $20 bucks but the convenience of that trip was worth the money. At 11pm at night, instead of going on the monorail to MK and then fighting to get on a bus back to Pop, we just got a cab and off we went. We were exhausted and that would have been a lot of walking and waiting.

I mentioned the cabs because people don't normally think of them if you need a faster transportation than the buses. Especially if it is resort to resort. I personally don't need them but when you are with more...impatient...family members, it's better to just shut up and go along for the ride ;)
