Pop Century (or lack there of)

I just tried to make reservations for Pop Century in April 2003, and they said to call back when the place is open. How am I suppoesed to know when the hotel will open. They should take reservations for April 2003, because all of the websites say it will open in November 2002. Usually I make my reservations a year in advance, now I won't be able to.

This seems very un-Disney like

Unless something drastic changes, it will not be open in Nov. 2002. After shutting down construction and recently restarting, the schedule they were on is way off. There is no way of knowing when something as big as Pop Century will open. There are too many variables.

I wouldn't worry about making a reservation a year off. I'm sure you will be able to make a reservation somewhere on property within a few months.

Well, we had planned on staying at Pop Century this visit but since they have delayed finishing the construction of it who knows when it will open. But if you are into that type of hotel I would highly recommend trying All-Star Movies. Thats where we are staying this trip..I have heard lots of good things about it...the kids got to pick the hotel this time around and they wanted to stay there last trip but the adults pulled the veto power...so this trip its Movies for us! Cant wait to get there!!!

I was at WDW at the begining of this month and passed the pop century many times. There was no work being done at that time. I do not think it would be open by November 2002. Disney is doing the right thing. You would be alot more dissapointed if you made a reservation at pop century and they had to cancel due to lack of completion, then not be able to get a room elsewhere do to everything beeing booked solid.

I'm really looking forward to Pop Century because of the Lady and the Tramp building. It was about time Disney payed more attention to the pet movies. Dalmatians only has the kind of attention it does because of the live action movie (big suck-fest, by the way). I wanna see more stuff with the ORIGINAL Dalmatians, like ASR Movies, Lady and the Tramp and Aristocats!! :sohappy:

UNHAPPY?!?! NO WAY!! I WAS THRILLED! We had reservations at Pop Century for February 2002. Well, they called us in August 2001, said it wouldn't be completed, and we ended up staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge, on the top floor, delux, savannah view for only $150/night!!! I was enthralled! By the way, Pop Century was never meant to be completed when it opened. When I would have gone, only 1950s and 1960s would have been completed. So, whenever a couple pools and a food court are completed (there will be two, eventually), they could open. November is feasable...whether they will open is their decision...

They won't give you reservations because they truthfully do not know when they will open. And they don't want to book until an official date is announced. They don't want people complaining over a result that isn't finished.

Well... I drive by Pop Century almost every day... And I can guarantee you that work is being done... We at Disney Transport have been told that Pop Century will tentatively open in November of 2002. However, just because it's scheduled to open then, they may not be taking reservations for it until it gets closer to the open date.

Now, keep in mind... not all of Pop Century will open... It is scheduled to open in phases. This will be done for several reasons. The first, and main reason... the buildings may not be complete! lol... The second being staffing. Pop Century is going to be quite large. Just for transportation alone, it's going to require hiring 200 new bus drivers, never mind all the hundreds of people they'll need for the internals of the resort. Housekeepers, Front Desk, Custodial, Hordiculture, Maintenance & Engineering, Security, Transportation, Textile Services, the list goes on.

So, do you know what are the themes of the first buildings, Tyler?

To be honest, I mostly kept my eyes on the road... lol

It looked to me at a quick glance though that it was the 80's building that I saw... But like I said, I mostly kept my eyes on the road. And they're planting trees and other horticulture around to shelter the resort from the roads...

My best advice is to make a reservation on site for say, the All Stars and keep calling as it gets closer to the opening date for Pop Century. If you need to I believe you can change your reservations up to 5 days before your trip!!! Double check that with CRO though just to make sure!! The you will have a place to stay regardless. Unless you have your heart set on Pop Century. Then I cant say what Id do. I Am easy Ill stay anywhere just on property!! 30 more days till P.O. Riverside:sohappy:

My guests always have fun. When they first get on, I'll get on the PA and say, "Good morning! My name is Tyler, and I'd like to welcome you aboard your first Thrill Ride of the day, ME DRIVING! Just kidding folks, I have plenty of experience... well, that is if you count the "Driving Busses for Dummies" book I bought the other day."

With "Magic On Demand" we're allllll over the place. In the mornings, we "Float" which means that we're dispatched to areas that need help the most. So, while I might be based out of the Studios, I might head over to Carribean Beach, and pick up for the Magic Kingdom. Then, I might pick up at Co/Po/GF for the Studios.

From 11am-park closing we're on set routes. So I'll have a set route from my base hub to a resort and so forth.

And then when the park closes, we float again, but this time, just going to whatever load zones and picking up.
