It has been brought to my attention that in order to be more socially acceptable, and in an effort to avoid offending the drinking habits of its many visitors, Walt Disney World announced today that they would be changing the name of their new Resort Development from "POP CENTURY" to ..............

(yes.....you guessed it!......)

SODA CENTURY!!!!

WOOHOO!!!!

 :sohappy:  :sohappy:

The above announcement brought to you by the raging COKE vs. PEPSI Debate and the BEVERLY RULES Foundation!

NO, NO!!!!

Come on Disney, keep it pop, for all of us up here in Pittsburgh. And then change downtown disney to "Don-ton Disney n'at". And then proceed to add "n'at" to the end of the names of every ride, park, resort, and attraction at WDW. Ohh yeah, and make sure cms always say, "how yinz guyz doin' today?" when greeting guests.

If only there was some way Disney could work out a contract with "Giant Iggle." Maybe Myron Cope could also do the Monorail Narration.

Geez, look at me going on, and the only people that would have any idea what I'm talking about would be from Pittsburgh, and I think that may be all of.......me.

Well, to be completely P.C., they ought to add "Coke" to the name too for our southerners (?).

I saw a demographic map before about who used "Pop", "Soda", "Coke"-

Nope, Nope! Keep it pop, at least for all of us in the mid-west, it's so weird for us to say soda. I am always saying, "Get me a pop!"

The name of the resort has nothing to do with a carbonated drink but a slang for cultural icons of the 20th century, hense the name

Here on Long Island, NY, we think Pop is very 50's. Its soda or Coke here.

Soda being the generic meaning any carbonated beverage(Sprite, Coke, Dew), and of course coke refers to carmel carbonated products (Pepsi, Coke, RC).

Its amazing how the same item a carbonated beverage can have so many nicknames in this country. ;)

Have fun!!

Oh, when i moved to pennsylvania, i asked a friend if he wanted a pop. he looked at me all dumbfounded...i couldnt believe it. we always call it pop, and they were always giving dumb looks. My cousins also call the drinking fountain a "bubbler":drevil:

In Canada its POP!! Prob the British influence. Kinda Funny Story: We were in Michigan and were eating at a Big Boy restaurant and my Nana dropped her serviette on the floor and she asked the waitress for another one and the waitress for another one and she had no idea what we were talking about. Finally we were like "OH, a napkin, we need a napkin!" and the waitress looked at us like we were weird........OK not really funny
