Pop Century conversion to Art of Animation?

Usually when Disney does a major rehab of their resort units, they pretty much tear everything out of the rooms (down to the studs). When the themed suites at Carribean were brought in, I'm pretty sure it was during one of these rehabs. That was what I was originally saying about Pop. When it's time for MAJOR rehab (which should be coming within the next few years), the speculation was whether we would see a changeover at that time. I would never expect Disney to just retheme a resort for the heck of it, but when its time to rip the interiors of resort rooms out, and rehab the exterior theming, and now there's a chance to retheme (at no greater cost than the rehab itself) that resort to match what's on the other side of the lake, I wonder what they'll do?

^ To that effect, I could see Disney more or less keeping the same room units of Pop Century, and simply retheming them to match the suites across the lake. Then you would effectively have one large Art of Animation Resort, consisting of suites and normal rooms (Art of Animation Suites and Art of Animation Inn?).

Since some of the Pop Century buildings are already decorated with Jungle Book and 101 Dalmatians characters, I could also see Disney retheming Pop to vintage Disney movies, creating a nice counterpart to the modern movie-themed buildings in AoA.

Disney can easily continue with Pop as it is by simply saying it represents the Pop portion of the century.

That said, sharing buses wouldn't likely happen, the current resort is pretty much at capacity.
Considering the the capacity of Pop and AoA will be less than the 3 All Stars I have a feeling that it will operate much like the All Stars do with dedicated buses at peak times and a shared bus route off peak. I hope I am wrong but considering that Disney seems to have no issue combining the bus routes for its 3 flag ship resorts at the expense of guest satisfaction it is not that much of a stretch that they will do the same at the values.

I am not even sure anyone besides disney fanboys...

God I hate that smarta** term.

And Disney has a capital D btw. ;)

I am not even sure anyone besides disney fanboys know that there are years missing.

Anyone who can count can look at the front of Pop and see that there are decades missing. I have seen people ask both at Pop and online, why the resort only has half a "century" listed. So it is noticed, by anyone with half a brain.

And to restate my position again, I do not see them doing anything at all to Pop in the way of changing the decade use or (God forbid) change it over to AoA2 resort until their next "major" refurb.

wow, sensitive much?

From wikipedia (original source is a life magazine article)

The current meaning of the term, culture for mass consumption, especially originating in the United States, is established by the end of World War II. The abbreviated form "pop culture" dates to the 1960s.

So I guess starting Pop Century in the 50's actually does make sense. What I meant when I said that disney (lowercase to bug you) fanboys (again used for your pleasure) are the only ones who know that years are missing referred to the abandoned project, which has now been reclaimed as AoA.

And no one really cares. Disney certainly doesn't, since they've had a decade to change it and haven't. The new resort won't make them any more inclined to do so.

I doubt even then.

Wow. Are we really going to try to turn this around on me? LOL I agree with you. I don't see it as a big deal and I doubt Disney does. I thinnk that the only thing they would do, if they did any thing at all, is remove the decade numbers.

I doubt even then.

Me too but you never know. I am trying to say that if they were to do it then they'd do it then because they have no reason to do it right now.

I don't think they'll change it. Rehabbing rooms is one thing, but changing the outdoor icons, the pools, etc is a huge expense they don't need. People LOVE Pop Century.

I honestly don't think most people know there was supposed to be another half on the other side of hourglass lake, nor do they pay attention to what other buildings there are to notice that there are decades missing.

I'd also argue that the most fun/relatable to the general public decades are represented, so you don't hear any outcry.

Maybe eventually they'll change the numbers on the outside. I was thinking maybe they could officially change the name to "Pop Century - Classic Years" but I feel like that just calls attention to the missing decades. I think most people probably just assume, as people have stated earlier, that it goes through decades that had "Pop" culture, and the 50's-90's would be the best representation of that anyway.

It wouldn't make much sense to re-theme Pop because of AoA, maybe Disney will be just fine with the different themes of their value resorts when all is said and done. It's not like they're going to change Movies, Sports or Music if one of the three starts to fall far behind the others in occupancy rates.

Change isn't always needed.
I'm still annoyed Dixie Landings became Port Orleans Riverside.
(although the Resort still ROCKS!)

Pop (half) Century works just fine.
The best half of the Century is covered.
Disney can leave the Great Depression, Prohibition, World Wars, Plagues and other goodies in Yesterland.
