Pop Century Back To Its Former Glory

In one of my updates awhile back, I posted a picture of the main building of Pop Century with the GIANT numbers missing. I later found out that the figures toppled during one of the hurricanes, and they were working to get them replaced. As of last weekend, all the numbers were back, except for the "1970s". Below is the picture of the building without the numbers, and the picture below that is the building with the numbers.

I just returned from POP yesterday and was shocked to see the 70s still hadn't been replaced. I was there the day they toppled and just assumed they would be back by now. Oh well.

I was there at the same time.....trapped in my room in the '50.

Darn you JEANNE!!!

You would think they would be back by now. It's probably someone's subconscious not wanting to remember the '70s.

Near the lobbie i believe....

(Those are custom made??? perhaps thats why it is taking soo long... the resort is fairly new and they didn't think of having backups yet...)

Great information....

most likely not done yet

With all the hurricanes that it last year there are lots of signs that have not been replaced yet all over Florida. There is a gas sation down the street from my subdivison that lost the covering for the sign and it has not been replaced yet. I see it all over the area that I live it.

Hope this helps.

Time Fly's when theres a hurricane at Pop Century

Just drive down I-4 and you'll see all kinds of stuff missing... mostly what I noticed were parts of signs that had been ripped off of hotels and lots of trees down right before you drive into Orlando... looked kinda messy but nothing too bad... Maybe they will have it back the 70's) by the end of the month when I stay in the 60's section at pop, I hope they do cause im bringing people who have never stayed (woohoo)

Yea, the hurricane damage is everywhere. I only brought this up since Disney was right on track repairing their hurricane damage. Many things were damaged or missing and most or all are fixed now.

Number location

I visited Pop in Feb. 2004 and again in Jan. 2005, and didn't notice any of the numbers missing. Where were they located specifically? Thanks!!

Walk out of the lobby and turn right. Numbers are between there and the bus stops.

BTW, what an wonderful resort. I've stayed as AS Movies, Music, Shades of Green, and the Contemporary but the inventiveness of this resort is great. I spent a wonderful 7 days there in Jan '05 exploring and discovering all the neat stuff there. And the cast and crew are really top notch!

I heard the GM for Pop is also the GM for the Caribbean next door, (due to Pop only half finished and so close)? Is this true? If so I'm guessing they went through the same training at the CB. Certainly more like staying at a moderate than a value resort. I think even better that what I experienced at the Contemporary.

Yes, Pop and CB share a GM. They will probably continue to share a GM, as most of the sister resorts do...Yacht & Beach, Wilderness Lodge & Fort Wilderness and all of the All Stars. Every front desk cast member at Disney goes thru the same training, called First Impressions. You don't necessarily go thru with people that will work at your resort, it is a mix, so if you feel you experienced better service at one resort than another, it is probably the result of their managers and how they are treated as a team at their resort. I worked at the Contemporary...I hope you didn't have bad service there!!
