Poor Figment

Am I the only one who thinks the complaints about Figment being annoying and obnoxious in the current version are kind of overblown? I mean, yeah, he's definitely more mischievous, but what is he doing that's so awful? Messing up Nigel Channing's dumb science experiments? It's not like we see him whacking the guy on the head with a mallet or shoving TNT down his pants.

My personal belief is he was made an “interference” in the current ride, on purpose, ladies & gentlemen. Infact the entire ride is mocking the whole situation “With Figment”. Infact, it was done by the exact same team that worked on Tiki Room: “Under New Management”. Under New Management subtlety mocked their frustrations with upper management wanting to change the Tiki Room and “the tiki gods” causing an uproar that’d lead to “Iago” getting burned in the end. Iago obviously representing Eisner/Pressler And with this one, it’s mocking their frustrations with Tony Baxter and the “Friends of Figment” who went and supposedly “interfered” with their institute tour... by constantly proving their point of “Imagination working best when set free” right, making a “big stink” to stop the tour (that’s how you tell a skunk is not a rose.. remember the pleasant rose scent that came into play in the original dreamport/art scene?). And then showing us that “Figment’s Imagination” is “just turning your thinking upside down”... featuring a tongue-in-cheek transformation of the upside down house from Your Imagination as the “upside down house of the Friends of Figment”. Then it puts the “Figment choir” on blast at the end.
Yeah.. ain’t that nice? Horrible, horrible ride! Wish they’d change it back to the original!

I literally don't understand the point of them doing that.
On one hand I get it. In light of the whole BDD and Buzzy situation, removing anything to discourage people from going "backstage" was a must.

On the other, how many knew of it? Was it that much of a problem? It was in a "almost backstage, super close to on stage" spot.

On my third hand, pushing the gate back 10 feet would've solved it.

Also, I tried searching online and around the various social medias but I think I may have been the last one photograph it. After I shared it on Twitter (tweet was removed a day or so later), it was removed shortly later 😐. I reposted it after it was confirmed removed.

I think what makes Figment's behavior so maligned is that his personality is very different from the original. It is like two different characters with the same skin. It just doesn't really work for those who have experienced the old attraction (there are less and less of us, Lol), and was especially jarring when JIIWF first opened because the old Figment was still fresh in mind.

I don't think he's that awful, just different. Not quite the same personality is all.

In the original he was lovable, innocent and naive. In this current one he is a bratty smart aleck. In fairness though, Nigel is no Dreamfinder. I agree that he isn't shockingly awful, but he won over kids and adults alike in his original life. It is that one that is selling in the gift shops to people that saw it originally. As long as he doesn't talk he is still the same. I just wish that they had found a "spark of inspiration" when they decided to change it all. Imagination needed a new turntable and modern technology to make a flawless show that would still be relevant today. The amazing thing is that I have ridden the original many, many times and it never ever had a problem or delay.

I was on the original Journey into imagination and just loved it so much that I had to go on it again and wait in a long line. Figment was one of the best characters in a long time to come out of the parks. My family had stuffed Figment toys and we still do. My older Mom who has passed away was given one when she could no longer go and loved it. I really wish and hope that they redue this pavilion back to how it was. It was just spectacular

I agree with this wholeheartedly. The origami room (the white part of the ride) from the original stays in my heart still.

Sorry to bump the thread but I rode thos last week and the audio animatronic figments were barely moving. Its embarrassing at this point for such a great character.

Really? I've never broken down on this ride.
We've been walked off on this one. Last few times we had 2 or 3 stops. One long enough that made us think we're about to be walked off. Always on our last day too so when they offer FP for other rides we pass LOL

The Imagination! pavilion is a perfect example of everything that's wrong with Epcot these days. Old, worn out and tired. There have been trips where I didn't even enter the pavilion. 🤷‍♂️

Poor Nigel Channing is giving a perfectly fine and fairly intriguing tour to us folks, yet Figment keeps interrupting, telling us to use our imaginations in ways that aren’t even relevant. It comes off extremely annoying and obnoxious to me. The storyline itself is problematic.

It doesn’t help that Eric Idle plays the role of the scientist with charisma and enthusiasm, making him a very likeable character. It also doesn’t help that Figment has a scratchy voice, small head, and yellow eyes, and isn’t perceived to be cute by many riders. So the execution makes the storyline even more problematic.

The ride gets poor ratings and I fully understand why.

And if they do keep Figment in a new version, they’d be wise to give him a redesign.
