Ok, I know Disney says you can't use another resort pool if you aren't at that one, however up until recently it seemed as if everyone was doing it.
Now I here they are asking to see hotel cards all the time, especially if you don't have one of their towels (considering you would need their resort card to get one lol)

anyways, anyone have any success using another resort's pool? i'm staying at all-star movies, which is cool, but id love to hop to the yacht and beach clubs pool or the AKL. do i have any hope?

I assume you understand about rules, right? Well it is against the rules to pool hop. Simple, easy to understand. If you stay at Disney it is expected that you follow the rules.

Well thats fantastic.

Let me ask you a question: Have you ever taken a risk in your entire life? I mean, I see myself as being a 'conservative' but sheesh, you take it to a whole new level! CONGRATS!

I guess i'm just not one of those people that just 'go with the flow' and see where it takes me.

Now I'm not condoning breaking rules here, but some rules are rather foolish and if you do indeed break them is anyone really getting hurt out of this situation.

I mean, there are rules that make perfect sense: no running by a pool, no yelling 'fire' in a public place, and so on.... those rules are there to protect you and others.

Oh, I've been keepin up, I know all about that little sorry excuse for a slide they put in the OKW pool.

I know you didn't buy the DVC membership to 'pool hop' but honestly don't you think it is a little foolish to pay all that money and be restricted like that?

And AKL restricted because of the animals? COME ON, I'm sure there is a much more logical reason than that. I'm not doubting you are anything, I inderstand that it is the policy that the AKL pool is restricted for guests only, but I'm sure there were other factors involved.

I joined DVC in 92 and that was the only resort at the time. I don't care about pools, I can swim in CT. As to the slide, I have not seen it yet. As to restrictions, when you purchase DVC you are bying a membership interest in a vacation club. Anything outside of a being able to obtain a unit is a perq. There were no promises made that pool hopping would continue and when I joined I never even knew that it existed. I find it no more foolish to have paid "all that money" and being restricted then I find paying a lot of money to stay at a deluxe resort is foolish and restrictive. I, according to you, am not restricted, I can say the he** with the rules and do entirely as I please, just like you have advised. But, I would not do that because: I respect most rules (they are not a buffet to chose from <except the speed limit>) and I have consideration for others, always.
I also don't feel the need to justify my purchase of DVC to you or anyone else.
It is long paid for and my buy in price is about equal to a 2 week vacation at the GF, so, now, who is foolish?
And, yes, AKL is restricted because of the animals. That is what we were told, and being an animal lover, believed it because it makes total sense.

Of course I take risks, but, we are not talking about risks here, are we? We are talking about respecting Disney's rules, right? The fact that you find them foolish is not the issue. The issue is that they are in place for a reason, if you don't like the reason, don't go there. Find another place without the rules.
It is obvious that you are condoning the breaking of rules if you find them foolish and you really don't know the ramifications of breaking them on others.
Perhaps the rules are in place to protect others from an overcrowded situation. I know I get a bit peeved when people from other resorts think it ok to go to OKW and use the facilities there and cause members and OKW guests not to be able to have a chair.
I also do not go with the flow, I am just respectful of rules. If I don't like them, then I see if there is something somewhere that can change them, I simply do not charge in and ignore them.
BTW, conservative has never been an adjective used to describe me. :)

In response to the original question at hand, yes, I have had success stopping in at other Resort's pools. There has been more of a crack down at Yacht and Beach recently, but it's still doable. But it is, of course, against Disney policy and you can be asked to leave the Resort.

So hop at your own risk. Just as tobacco is proven to be harmful, it is still widely used. Pool hopping is wrong as per policy, but it is still done.

But, for the record, I haven't done it in forever b/c we stay at Yacht Club now.

And something else. Last vacation I walked right up to the BoardWalk lifeguard CM and said I was a YC Guest, but I just want to go on the slide with my sister b/c "I love wooden coasters." She obliged and said something to the effect of don't worry and have fun. That, of course, depends on the CM. And if she said no, I would have gone back to Stormalong Bay.

Enjoy the All Star pools tho--they are bright, colorful, fun, and wet!!

I am definitely no sure how you can possible equate smoking with pool hopping or the breaking of rules. Smoking in the proper places and proper times is not breaking any rules. Pool hopping (if not a DVC) member is breaking the rules all the time.

oh how I do love pool hopping threads, almost as much as gay day threads, refillable mug threads, religion threads, and political threads. :animwink: Nothing good ever comes from these.
