Polynesian Resort

After reading the posts regarding our question of whether to stay at the Poly and go Monorail, or stay at the AK and go with the bus, we have decided to lay our deposit for the Poly.

My questions for all the Disney experts out there are:

1. Garden views or Lagoon at the poly-And why?

2. I was told by our reservation agent that the Poly is about a half-a-block walk from the MK. Has anyone done this with kids 6 and 3?

3. Suggestions regarding any aspect of the Poly that has enhanced your experience there.

Thanks to all who have helped provide us with such usefulo info.

2. Unfortunately, the travel agent was grossly misinformed. The Poly is nowhere near walking distance to the MK. However, it is within walking distance to the Transportation and Ticket Center, which has direct monorail and water ferry transportation to the MK

3. If you have suffieicnt extra time on your trip, take the time to walk around and explore the resort. It is very peaceful and enjoyable. You can also walk all the way to the Grand Floridian from the Poly (this is recommended).

The Poly is also a pleasure to explore at night, with great nighttime views of the surrounding resorts and the MK. The torches along the walkway will be lit up as well.

We stay at the Poly every year, once 3 times in a year with our AP's. Our 3 DS are now 15,13 and 11. I don't know when you are going but urs did not enjoy ealking to the TTC in the hot humid august heat. Once was enough. We usually request the Niuie bldg. Its a garden view. We really don't care about the view but its non smoking for DS asthma and its the closest walk to the Great Ceremonial House for the monorail, not to mention the closest to Captain Cooks Snack Shop to fill up those awfully small resort mugs. There are lots of free activities to do at the Polynesian. Look in the newspaper in your room. There is a different activity every day. Like hula lessons, torch lighting, lady bug release. My kids personal favorite is the arcade challenge. Free games for an hour. They also had free movies and arts and crafts at the neverland club during the day. At night you can use the neverland club, (Charge) for great childcare. Our DS did not want to come out when they were little. They have games, movies, dinner buffet etc. They even get sprinkled with pixie dust when they go in and parents get a beeper. Excellent service. Well worth it. At the resort you can enjoy the electrical water parade and the fireworks. We do notice alot of non resort guest come over so be prepared it could get crowded. We did the breakfast at Ohanas. Also dinner, Kids enjoyed the morning parade around the room and at night they have coconut races and hula hoop contests. Your kids will be saying aloha and mahalo alot. You can rent bikes, boats and get fishing trips from the dock etc. The resort buses are pretty fast. Some do make stops at the wilderness lodge and the GF. The volcano pool is awesome and they even will give you free life vests if you want them. Grab a drink from the bar by the beach. They even have a hammock to enjoy. You can also take the little boat launch that goes to the Polynesian for a change of pace. Its especially magical at night. Have fun and enjoy.

No hot tub?

There is nothing nicer than a hot soak after a day at the park. And, please correct me if I am wrong, there is place to boil sore muscles after hiking for 8 hours plus.

This, in my opinion, is the only drawback from this wonderful resort.

I can answer your first question... definitely go with a lagoon view! Oh, my goodness, to have a view of the castle all the time is so awesome, especially for the little ones. (and request a ground floor room... there are ducks and bunnies that will come to visit you at your door. The kids totally love that!!) Plus, you get to see the water parade out your door. I just love it. Have fun!!

Congratulations on choosing the Poly. It's our favorite resort. Definitely visit the volcano pool, but if you want a lounge chair and some real pool time, go to the quiet pool. Last summer we had the quiet pool to ourselves for a whole afternoon. The kids had a ball jumping in and out while I threw a ball for them to catch. We've got some great video of it as well. The first time we stayed there in 1993, we had just driven 23 hours straight from Chicago. We were checking in at 3:30 in the afternoon and were exhausted. We had reserved a garden view. At check-in, they asked the "smoking or non-smoking" question. We said non-smoking. The CM kept typing away on his computer. After what seemed like a long time he said "I have something here, it's not exactly what you requested but I think you'll enjoy it." We got a lagoon view in the building between Luau Cove and the Great Ceremonial House. The name then was Tonga but many of the names of the buildings have been changed since then. It wasn't until the next morning after a good night's rest that we realized we had be upgraded to a better view. We have referred to that ever since as the "Non-Smoking Scam".

The Magic Kingdom is not that far away but it is not anywhere near a half a block. The main problem would be that the path to the GF does not continue to the MK. There also would be no need to go to the TTC since the monorail is in the lobby and the boat to the MK is at the marina dock. You will only walk to the TTC to get on the monorail to get to Epcot.

Have a great time.

Aloha
