Polynesian Resort Adding Bungalows

Well I was thinking the same thing, will the new pool area be open to everyone at the resort?
No clue, but based on the layout of the resort I would think it would be next to impossible to restrict it to only DVC. At BLT the entire tower and the pool area are locked down. Without building a large unsightly fence they would have to open it to all guests.
Both!! When the time comes, do the numbers. My guess is it will be pricey to stay there as a paying guest so renting is probably a better option.
Using BLT as a guide the cheapest studio room during value season there rents for 102 points for a week. Lets say you find someone to rent the points to you for between $8 and $12 a point. You would be paying between $816 and $1,224 for the week. Since you don't have to pay the 12.5% sales tax that's the equivalent of a pre-tax rate of between $104 and $156 per night. Try to find that rate at Poly booking a cash room.

Granted that's for the cheapest season and for a room with no view. If you wanted a room with a MK view for the popular summer season it's probably going to be more like 180 points for a week. Same math as above equates to a rate of between $183 and $274 a night. Still a huge bargain considering the current rack rate for theme park view rooms in July and August is between $660 and $709 per night (that's not a typo, it really is that high). The only problem you may have is finding someone willing to rent out their points:). You could try for an owner who would trade in their points from another resort, but they may not be able to book at the 7 month window for you.

They will be adding a fence to the existing volcano pool at some point soon so I would not be surprised if they build one on the new pool. All the pools will need resort ID to gain access. I even heard they were going to try and limit access to the beach since there are signs that state pool and beach area is for Polynesian Resort guests only but we know how many visit the beach who are not guests.

I didn't know that about the fence at the regular pool. With a fence it would be possible to restrict the new pool to DVC guests but I think if I paid $700 a night for a room and then was told I couldn't use the new pool area I would pitch a fit. I think BCV has a small DVC only pool, but nobody cares since the main pool is awesome. I think there may be a problem if the DVC pool ends up being nicer than the main pool.

I own at BCV and I have seen them card people at the DVC only pool when its busy...but your right most people try to sneak into Stormalong Bay instead of the DVC only pool anyway...

So.... are they going to add any parking? Taking away an existing lot would seem to exacerbate parking problems at the Poly.

And is the Spirit of Aloha going to be relocated? If so, where?

No place to put more parking. They could maybe go with a small 2 level garage or maybe take a small section of the MK lot but it would be a long walk. Spirit of Aloha could have a new location built...in the parking lot. Taking away more spots. Another option would be to build a location into the first floor of one of the new wings. There are rumors the whole GCH will be demolished and rebuilt so it could go there too eventually.

Bottom line: For me, unless I can convince my hubby to buy into DVC ( probably never going to happen). I will never be able to stay there!:( I am almost certain the "average" folks like me will not be able to afford such an extravagant thing as a bungalow!:(
This clearly has been the trend with Disney. And not just Disney, but a lot of places. They look to attract wealthy (mostly) foreigners who will pay exorbitant. Meanwhile giving giving the kiss off (I have a more salty term in mind) to the "average" person.

The prices of rooms on property are insane. How many people probably stayed at the Poly as kids, or even 10-15 years ago? How many of those people could afford to do so today? If they have people willing to pay those rates (even the "cheaper" DVC rates), what does Disney care? Certainly under the current regime, it does not.

Just checked DVCrequest.com and they have GFV at 93 points for a Standard View Studio for a Wed-Sun stay the week of Thanksgiving (figured I would check a busier time)...$1302. A Standard Room through Disney site would be $2363, man that extra bed is expensive.

Honestly, I would much rather stay at the Poly than the new Villas at the GF. The Poly to me seems more fun and still luxurious. The GF seems stuffy. I will stay there once and make up my own mind but if it is like I think it may only be that one time but my mind is open. DVC has definitely afforded me to stay in places like this and for that I am thankful.
