Tuvalu was very close to opening at the end of last week. I have not heard if it opened yet or not but if it has not it will be any day. They were just about finished with the renovations. Some of the new rooms that have opened are still not finished (waiting for headboards and lighting) so they will still have some of the old stuff in them.
I'll be checking in on the 15th for my Honeymoon. Was wondering if I could end up in one of the newly renovated rooms. I really have no prefrence which building I stay in.
Would it be worth faxing my request for a newly renovated room, or would it even make a difference?
Many of the resorts don't accept faxed in requests anymore. I do advise that you call Disney or if you went through a TA, and have them add the request to your reservation.
Well it is too late for this person since they check in today but if anyone else wanted to know Tuvalu opened with the 2nd and the 3rd floors done with the new rooms but the first floor (which is open) is still the old room.
Nuie is open with the new room and Fiji. Also the 1st and 3rd floors of Rapa Nui are done. Hawaii concierge rooms open on Monday (Oct 10).
love your site.....I'm booked at Poly for Thxgvg, its me , wife and 11,7, and 5 month old....any longhouse reccomendations? We are big MK people....and we will have a car...thanks....ps, we dont smoke and dont want to stay in a smoking bldg...pps, we have a garden view.....i wouldve had to sell a kid for lagoon view
If you want a new room and you are staying non-smoking garden view than Fiji is your best bet if you can get in there. Niue is done but is all smoking optional. Tuvalu is smoking on the 3rd floor but the garden view there is not very good. Rapa Nui would not be bad if you wanted a new room and Fiji were not available. If you cannot get into a new room that Tokelau and Samoa are great garden view locations.
This is probably a question tikiman may be able to answer. I saw from the photos on your site that the newly refurbished rooms that have been reopened to guests are not 100% complete yet. Are all of the newly renovated rooms that are now open like this (without the new headboards and lighting), or is it simply that one longhouse? Either way, do you know when they intend on installing the new headboards, assuming that they are still part of the new look (I sure hope so.. the old headboard and lighting look very out of place). Thanks in advance!
As far as I know all the rooms have the old headboards until they get them in. The exception might be Hawaii that opened today. They still plan on using the new ones from what I know.
Steve, thanks for the info. I see you've added some more new photos of the rehabbed rooms. They like really nice. I am still hoping they install those headboards from the model room. They really brought the whole room together.
I noticed that the new rooms are also lacking a mirror over the day bed as compared to the model rooms. Any idea if they just dropped putting a mirror in that location or are they awaiting those particular mirrors to come in as well? My guess is that there won't be a mirror there since the new mirrors for the bathroom and desk are there...although the wall looks plain without it.
My parents are headed to the Poly this weekend, hence my interest. They've requested a new rehabbed room realizing it may or may not be possible. If they get inside a new room, I'll ask them to get some more pictures for your (and this) site.
I know a few people over in Hawaii longhouse right now so I am curious to see if the headboards made it into those rooms. I am not sure about the mirror but they did say some things would be different than what was in the test room. It is possible that it will still be added but I have not seen it in any of the rooms yet. By next summer hopefully everything will be done in the rooms and around the resort.
Steve...the unofficial guide says the Great Cermonial House has been or will be rehabbed...is this true? If so when...are the rehabs obvious to the point that they take away from the resorts ambiance?thanks
Parts of the GCH have already been done. They moved the stores from the back into the new store “Boutiki” and made a new bathroom area across from Captain Cook’s. Even while they were doing that there was very little disturbance reported from people there and when I was there you did not feel it took away from anything other than things were changing. They are still going to move Wyland Gallery into the old News From Polynesian store and in 2006 they will move Captain Cook’s over to the building where the old Tangaroa Terrace was or near the Arcade now. While it is over there they will expand Captain Cook’s across the back of the GCH (known as the Outrigger Assembly House) and the menu will be greatly improved. Infact the rumor from the Polynesian staff is that the menu at Captain Cook’s will be expanded and improved enough that they might not serve lunch at Kona any more but I don’t know that for sure yet.
Other than that there is not any major construction in store for the GCH that I know of. The rest of the GCH has been worked on over the last few years to fix it up including redoing the rock waterfall back in 02 and redoing most of the exterior in 03.
I know that the Unofficial guide has worked hard to get tons of facts about all that is going on at all the resorts and I feel they are doing a better job than anyone out there with gathering information.
