Polynesian Question

My wife and I made reservations for next May to stay at the Polynesian Conceirge....Lagoon View. They have been confirmed.

From what I have read, there are only two Conceirge buildings. The Hawaii, and The Tonga.

My question is...am I guarenteed a room in the Hawaii Longhouse? That is the only building we want to stay in and will stay elsewhere if we can't get it.

From what I understand, the Tonga Longhouse only has suites in it and are more expensive that the Standard Conceirge rooms.

My travel agent seems to think that there are no guarentees that I'll get to stay in the Hawaii Longhouse just because we are doing conceirge.

I know this all sounds selfish and silly, but it's my wife's Birthday and she has always dreamed of staying at the Hawaii building with that Beautiful Lagoon and Castle view and I don't want to dissapoint her.

Any experts out there ??

Did you mention you wanted Hawaii when making your reservation?

If you have a confirmation number or the name the reservation is in, I would call and request to be in Hawaii if you haven't done so already.



The only thing that I think you are guaranteed is a lagoon view. You can call/fax your request a few days before you arrive stating you want Hawaii.



Which day are you arriving? Try to arrive earlier in the day, morning if possible, if not definitely by 3 or 4. The earlier you get there, the more possible it will be to have a room change in case they don't have you in Hawaii.

If you booked a regular concierge room (not a suite) then you will definately be in the Hawaii Longhouse.

I should have answered this in my last post, but anyway...

At the Polynesian, when you book concierge you are definately in the Hawaii longhouse. It isn't like the other resorts where special floors host concierge. The Hawaii building has the lounge and all the concierge rooms (Tonga has concierge suites).

Scooter, we may end up being neighbors. We are staying at the Polynesian in May, also Lagoon View, Concierge. It's our second time; the first was unbelievable.

You are correct in that the Tonga houses the suites only. The concierge service is included with the suites, but the lounge and food service are in the Hawaii. As the other posters said, if you are doing non-suite concierge, you'll be in the Hawaii. However, when I made my reservations something happened that gave me pause on this very issue. The agent asked me my smoking preference. I told her that my preference was non-smoking but that I understand that the only balconies in the Hawaii building are on the third floor (the second floor has no balconies) and that the third floor is smoking. Since a balcony is important to me, I told her I would take the third floor even though it was smoking. She asked me to hold on and then came back on and said that I would have a balcony and non-smoking. Since I knew that didn't exist in the Hawaii, I asked her how. She had put me in the Tahiti. I thanked her for the effort put told her that I really wanted to be in the same building as the lounge.

My recommedation: Just make sure that you are in the Hawaii (you most likely are). The concierge service is expensive and you will not get your money's worth if it is in another building.

You guys reasured me of what I already had thought.

My travel agent needs to do her homework better. :lol:
I'm glad I looked into it myself or God knows WHERE we would have ended up.

We never stayed in concierge. But we have stayed at the resort and it is beautiful. But I have found most travel agents need to do their homework. I always book our WDW trips myself on the phone with central reservations. That way I can ask these questions myself and I know I only have myself to blame if it gets screwed up. Also if you get the right person on the phone sometimes you can get much better prices than going through an agent.

This isn't just for you, but for all guests at all resorts. Try and arrive as early as possible during the day to check in.

If you aren't put into a room type (building, smoking preference, connecting rooms) that you like, it is MUCH EASIER to possibly be moved into what you want then. If you wait until 6 pm or later (like 10) and try to get what you want, you will probally be disapointed (at least during peak and busy seasons) and be stuck with something you don't want.

Thanks. How about check in day. I have flexibility in my travel plans. Is there a better day of the week to check in (in terms of getting what you want)?

Getting in Monday-Wed. is better, at least during the slower times. Check-ins start building on Thursday, through Friday, and peak over the weekend. Most check-outs are on Sunday.

During the summer, I don't know how well this pattern fits. The earlier you arrive in the day, the better chances of getting exactly what you want.

Most of the time, you'll be able to get what you want. During major group season (like now) and extremely peak times (Christmas) are the only time that there is a chance you might not get what you want.

I've found that most people's biggest complaint comes when people get put into smoking rooms when requesting non-smoking. Non-smoking should never be guaranteed, neither should connecting rooms.

Write Disney and ask that all rooms be made non-smoking.

Just to clarify...If you book concierge you are guaranteed to be in Hawaii. They won't give you a concierge service room in a different longhouse (except Tonga)
