After reading the posts regarding our question of whether to stay at the Poly and go Monorail, or stay at the AK and go with the bus, we have decided to lay our deposit for the Poly.

My questions for all the Disney experts out there are:

1. Garden views or Lagoon at the poly-And why?

2. I was told by our reservation agent that the Poly is about a half-a-block walk from the MK. Has anyone done this with kids 6 and 3?

3. Suggestions regarding any aspect of the Poly that has enhanced your experience there.

Thanks to all who have helped provide us with such usefulo info.

Try posting this in the resort Forum....you'll defiantley get more replies that way....

but to answer your questions....

1) a garden view is great....but a lagoon view is even better....each has it's own positives and negatives....
Lagoon view rooms are usually the fathest from the the main building....main pool....and monorail....but offer fanatstic views of the lagoon....MK....and other MK resorts....
the garden view rooms usually have views of the courtyards and pathways and pools....it's easier to request a room closer to the main building etc with a garden view room....

2) nope....its about a half a block to the TTC....and from their you hop on a ferry or monorail to the MK....the only MK resort where you can walk to the Mk is the Contemp.
At the POLY it's pretty easy to hope on the monorail or resort boat to get to the MK though....
If you were to walk to TTC....it is a short walk...and from the TTC you can catch buses to all Disney Parks...
The POLY does have their own bus stop

3) with your kids so young....I suggest a room close to the main building, pool, and snack shop....this way getting drinks in the morning will be easy....as well as walking to the monorail...etc
Don't forget about the Character Breakfast at Ohana's....your kids will love it....
don't forget to stay up one night with the kids to watch the water pagent...and fireworks....
defiantley take naps...especially being so close to MK....come back in the afternoon...swim...and let the young'ns nap....

It was a hike to the TTC, but of course we were on the opposite side of Poly and I was dead tired, I would suggest sticking to monorail. Walk to MK is possible (I think) but would take forever.

We originally asked for a garden view and got upgraded to a Marina view when we arrived at no additional charge. We stayed in Fiji, very close to the main building. I believe Garden view is available in this building just facing the other way towards the Luau Cove. SOOOOOOOO close to the main building. And not as expensive as Lagoon view.

We just stayed at the Poly during the last week in March. We were in a garden view room in Tahiti. Tahiti is the closest building to the TTC in Poly, it was great for getting to MK and Epcot. My kids are 5 and 8, and we were rushing to get to all the parks in four days, so we did not spend that much time in the room. I am not sure the lagoon view would be worth the extra money, since you are not in the room that often. (We had requested it also, but was not able to get one, they were sold out) (depends on how much time you have and how much of it you will be spending in the room).

It is close enough and easy enough to get back and forth for naps and down periods. The bus was easier to catch at the front of the hotel, plus the bus station at TTC is at the opposite side of the TTC, so is about the same distance to the front of the hotel to the busses at TTC, but the hotel you can pick up a cup of Kona coffee!

We rushed back a couple of nights for the water pagent and saw the tail end both times. If you can get there around 8pm and stake out a hammock or chairs I am sure it would be worth it.

We did get in the pool once, the volcano slide was "COOL" in my son's eyes. The quiet pool was heated more.

Ohana's is must for a character breakfast and Kona Cafe is a great place to eat to get away from the crowds of the parks!

They are refurbishing some of the rooms right now, but that did not really interfere with us at all. Have fun and Aloha!:wave:

I think you will have a wonderful time at the Poly. We did and will stay there again in December. It doesn't take any time to get to any of the parks. And like everyone else has said, good restaurants on site. You will love being able to look across the lagoon at the castle and seeing the fireworks. If you go down to the dock, they actually broadcast the music, etc.

Go with the lagoon view. We were at the Poly last year for our wedding and we loved being able to look out over the water and see the castle. And being able to sit on our balcony and watch the fireworks over the castle was awesome. We stayed in Tuvalu which was out by the marina. Also you have a perfect view of the water light parade.

We've had the Marina view (no balcony though) and we stayed at the longhouse right across from the volcano pool (which was our favorite) and we also stayed in Tahiti which is on the other side closest to the TTA. Except for the marina view which we had no balcony, we loved both the other rooms. I think you should ask for a room closest to the Great Ceremonial House. That way you will be close to the monorail, the pool and the snack bar. I'm telling you, you will love the Poly!

The Poly is our fav resort. We especially like swimming at the quiet pool and hearing the Hawaiian music underwater. The hotel is beautiful by day and beautiful by night. We've stayed in buildings all over the Poly property and each one has its pros and cons. My fav part about being at the Poly is when you get on the monorail for the first time and hear.... "Aloha! and Welcome Aboard!"

A word to remember
Mahalo (pronounced muh-hah-low) means Thank you in Hawaiian/Samoan.

We always try and watch the fireworks from the beach once a trip.

The Poly has always been my favorite hotel. You should have a great time there no matter where your room is. Lagoon view is great but does cost a bit more. If you aren't going to be spending a lot of time in the room the Garden View might make more sense. The last few times we were there we would request a pool view and use the difference in the room rate (compared to lagoon view) to stay an extra night or two.

And I agree with Nansafan, I love hearing "Aloha, and welcome aboard."

My husband and I have only stayed in a garden view. My boys enjoyed waking up and visiting with the ducks in the morning. It's something they looked forward to every time we stayed there. We also liked having a patio to sit out on so we can relax and unwind (and enjoy a cold one). My youngest son loved going to the pool every evening until 11pm at nite, watching the water pageant, and sometimes the fireworks.

When it comes to view, you have to ask yourself if you want to spend the money to look out over the water. There is a pretty big difference in price between the garden and lagoon room, so you have to just make sure you fell it is worth it.

The reservationist you spoke to, was wrong in saying you can walk to the MK. You can walk to the TTC where you can catch the monorail to Epcot without going through the entire loop and the having to transfer. It is a very short and nice walk.

you definately made a good choice in choosing the Polynesian, you will be ahppy staying there.

Here are my answers for your questions:

A1: Lagoon, more privacy if on balcony or patio, chance for a view of MK.

Q2: I was told by our reservation agent that the Poly is about a half-a-block walk from the MK. Has anyone done this with kids 6 and 3?
A2: Not walking distance to MK, kinda to TTC, but with two kids I would forget about it (ride anytime you can, you'll get more than enough walking in during your trip)
The Poly has:
Monorail to GF, MK, Contemp, and TTC (with connecting service to Epcot)
Boat service to the same (and WL I believe).
Bus service to everywhere else

Q3: Suggestions regarding any aspect of the Poly that has enhanced your experience there.
A3: Eat at O'hana's; get going early in the morning (the monorail is key)

Have a great time, make sure you take advantage of resort perks such as:
E-tik night
Early entry (if that is going on)
Free package delivery to your room
Room Key Charge Card (beats bringing lots of money out)

I'll chime in too. I think your questions have been answered, but here a couple of other thougths.

Money - how well off are you. If money is not a real concern, then lagoon all the way. The views are wonderful. If you have the money, no reason not to do it.

If money is a concern, I think the garden views are fantastic too. And when all is said and done, when I am there - I am in the parks - not my room. If I had the money I'd like to sit and watch the MK for 15-30 minutes in the morning and evening; but I don't - I'd rather use that cash for other things (tours, shows, gifts, meals.)

Either way - Tahiti is my favorite. Exteremely close to just about everything. The TTC is close, the main building is close too. The marina and pools are also near by.

Enhancements: The luau show is fun. Kona Cafe breakfast go for the Tonga Toast. Ohana is a great dinner. (I've never done the character breakfast but I hear it's great.) Take a mouse boat of the marina. Watch the fireworks over the MK from the end of the pier or at the Point (can't remember it's name.)

Enjoy - the Poly is my favorite (can you tell.) :animwink:
