Polynesian or not Polynesian, that is the question?

Hi guys,

I'm looking for some honest advice on where to stay on our next trip to Orlando. For Sam's birthday we're going to come to town and do all the parks like I've done hundreds of times before. Now as it's a special occassion we really wanted to stay at the Polynesian it looks fantastic and when we've been past it on the monorail we've been so jealous of people staying there.

However....

Last time we were in Florida we stayed in a very nice hotel in a great location that provided everyhing we needed for about $80 a night! The Polynesian is $315!!!! This significantly bumps up the price of our trip I was wondering if you could give me the pros of staying at the Polynesian over a regular hotel. As we can't go to Florida as easily as alot of you guys (Travelling from the UK and all) we do all the parks and literally spend all day in them and out and about.... I'm finding it hard to justify paying so much more for a hotel we will probably only sleep in and leave almost immediately after we wake up.

What do you mean by direct monorail transportation to Epcot - by walking to the TTC and getting on the Epcot monorail? When I was at the World in Feb., I don't remember seeing that.

Yes - it's only a few feet away from TTC, where all the other resorts you'd have to transfer monorails to get to Epcot. We stayed in Tahiti and it was a shorter walk for us to get to the Epcot and MK monorails at TTC than to walk to the monorail at the GCH.

Yep. It's the only resort that has access from the resort to the Epcot monorail without having to use some other form of transportation (bus, boat, another monorail). Well I guess you can walk from GF but you'ld have to walk through Poly to get there.

Tikiman2001 did a great little study on his website. Based on timing video tapes he made going from Poly or Beach Club to the middle of Epcot between Future World and World Showcase, it takes less time to get to the middle of Epcot from Poly by walking to the Monorail than walking only from Beach Club. So Poly really is quick and easy access to two parks.

Speaking of Tikiman2001, if you haven't seen the site and need ANY information about the Polynesian Resort go to: http://tikiman2001.homestead.com/

The resort is great. We have stayed at many resorts and this one is on top. The theme is great and it is never to crowded. Monorail service saves so much time, not to mention you can walk to the TTC. And nothing beats sitting on the beach with a frozen poly drink in hand.

If there is a down side, the food court is small and there is a long walk to the gym. Otherwise, STAY THERE!

Poly has its own small lot. When you go through the Magic Kingdom parking toll booths, stay to the right side of the road. Most of the lanes of the road will curve left to the TTC lot. If you stay to the right side, you will just go straight ahead on a small single lane drive. At the first stop light, turn left and follow the signs into Poly's lot.

What does everybody have against changing Monorails to get to Epcot from the resort loop? It's not like Walt Disney World is the only mass transportation system in the world that doesn't provide direct services for destinations on different lines - it's for practical reasons too. The busses would work better on a hub and spoke system as well.
