Polynesian longhouse suggestion

This is my first post here.

We are staying at Poly 9/23-9/28. 2 Garden view rooms, 6 of us total. My husband and I are treating our mothers to a trip to the "world" to spend with our daughters 7 and 5 1/2. We have 6 full days because our flight arrives in Orlando at 8am and doesn't depart on the last day til 9:30pm.

1st time in WDW was 10/2010 at Port Orleans Riverside.

We plan on going to the parks early, coming back for a break, and then going to dinner. We are going to MK and EPCOT 2 days each. AK on arrival day. 1/2 day at DHS in the middle of our stay.

I just cannot seem to be able to decide where I'd like to REQUEST a room (I understand it's just a request). And I have also heard anywhere at Poly is wonderful.

I'm leaning towards Raratonga because of it's close proximity to everything. For mid-day pool breaks, I can see us getting off monorail or bus, changing in our room grabbing mug to refill at GCH and heading to the pool...would be more walking back and forth saying in Tokelau (my other choice) but Tokelau would be closer to TTC.

Heard Samoa is great for pool.

I'm also wondering if it's easier to catch a bus at Poly bus stop OR TTC for AK and DHS.

We all know a trip to the world requires a LOT of walking...I'm just trying to think about the little ones and Grandmas! Lol

Thanks in advance for the advice

I've found that catching a bus from the resort to Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios is easier. TTC is a little walk from the resort itself(or a long monorail ride). I'd just catch the bus straight from the hotel. Its going to be a long bus ride either way because AK is on the other side of WDW.

As for the longhouse that you want to stay in, when we went, we loved staying in Samoa. It is the closest one to the Great Ceremonial House and is a few steps from both pools. Not to mention the marina and boat dock are very close as well. Raratonga is nice too though. We just prefer Samoa because you are right in the middle of the resort. You really can't go wrong with this any spot in this resort though. Its a slice of paradise.

Hope this helps a little.

I haven't stayed at the Poly but that is my favorite resort in WDW and I traditionally visit/eat there each trip, so I do know the layout pretty well. Tahiti is a great location.. closest to the TTC but a bit further from the Great Ceremonial House. Samoa is also a great location as its closest to the GCH & Volcano Pool, but probably a bit difficult to get. If I were staying there, I wouldn't mind where my room is.. the Poly is amazing when it comes to atmosphere and the grounds are gorgeous, I'd love to walk to get to anything.

I'll be in the world the same dates as you! I arrive at 8am and leave at 9pm also! I will be at the Poly for dinner on the 24th and breakfast early on the 25th at the Kona Cafe and I can't wait! :D:wave:

Thanks! Glad to hear that about the busses. We only have 2 days to catch a bus....last time at POR, we took a bus EVERYWHERE and that took FOREVER! Looking forward to hopping on the monorail and boats right from the resort!

We'll walk to TTC for EPCOT monorail.

I'd assume, if we stayed in Samoa, that it's better to catch resort monorail to MK if we're pressed for time. As opposed to walking to TTC for express monorail.

I'm now thinking of requesting Samoa with second choice Niue.

That would be a great choice. If you get a room on the side of the building facing the valcano pool, you can get a little view of the castle without having to pay for it. Not to mention a nice view of the Grand Floridian and the pool itself. We got all this for just a Garden View price. No matter where you stay even if its not in this building, Polynesian is the best resort(in my opinion) in WDW.

Also about the monorails, yeah, I would just take the monorails in the Great Ceremonial house to go to Magic Kingdom. Its much quicker than walking to TTC. Especially if you stay in Samoa.

Thanks so much! I'm so excited about this trip! We've been planning out our days since we first booked in October. Took a break planning for Xmas and the started again in January. We're not getting hopper. On our last trip we had deluxe dining. We went to luau, hoop de doo, and Cindy's castle which all require 2 credits. We were left with 2 meals a day which worked for us! We're doing the same again...doing dinner shows again but most of other meals are different.

I booked the reservations a few weeks ago (exactly 180 days ahead)....now that I can really imagine where we're going to be each day, I wanted to figure out which longhouse to request.

Spirit Airlines from Atlantic City?? hahaha we must be.. how funny! There were only 2 flights going and coming home and I chose the earliest going and the latest going home!

Yep! I did the same thing! We're paying to stay in the hotel and 6 days of passes....I'd hate to arrive 8:30pm, just in time to sleep and leave at 9am and have to leave on magic express at 7am! What a waste of the cost of sleeping in the room! Why not just leave the night before!

Awesome!! I will be seeing you more than once then! Last trip my mom and I flew out in the afternoon and got there at 3pm and we felt we wasted our first day, so I won't do that again. And leaving to go back home so early in the morning is just even more depressing as it is. This is my first solo trip, but my good friend at work (who is a disney freak like me) is going the same dates also, same flights and all, but they are staying at Bay Lake Tower and I have 2 meals with them during our stay so I won't be completely alone the whole trip.. I am so excited for this!!! :sohappy:

See you there!

Go to tikimanpages. This will help you decide. Also allearsnet has a map you can print out to help you decide which longhouse. I chose Samoa for the proximity to the pools. I made the "request". My 2nd choice is Raratonga. My 3rd choice is Niue. My 4th choice is Aotearoa. I want to walk the grounds, so it doesn't much matter where I stay! Have a great time and ALOHA!:)

I just called and made my request "3rd floor Samoa" problem is we want connecting rooms. So, we'll see. I'm going to check-in armed with my 1st, 2nd, 3rd choices so I don't say "just give me whatever"

I know we'll have a great time no matter what. And yes, we want to walk th grounds...I have 2 8am reservations away from the resort. :lookaroun

I just can't wait! :sohappy: and i think it's impossible to read too much or view too many pics! I love planning and figuring out everything now so I can enjoy my vacation when we're there!

We have stayed there 2 times. The first time we stayed at Tahiti. Great location to get to TTC, but a little farther walk to the pool and the GCH. The last time we stayed at Tokelau. This ws very centrally located and easy to get to the pools and GCH, and just a little farther walk to the TTC.
