Poly Question...

We are new owners and planning our Welcome Home trip for March 2023. We can get a poly studio that is a lake view for 19 points more than a standard view for our entire trip. Is it worth it? We have never stayed at a monorail resort so we are excited.

View is really a personal thing. Even with some obstructions on the 1st floor, I do like being able to watch fireworks from my room - especially the new show - lackluster projections makes me enjoy it from afar. If you get the 2nd or 3rd floor or the 1st towards the end there are minimal to no obstructions which is very nice. We have done both standard and lake views and I still have lake for our next trip.

Having stayed at the Poly 3 times, we have opted for the standard view each time, and have had excellent garden views each time. While we have plenty of points to do the lake view, it just doesn't interest us that much to spend the extra points. I have to agree with @CaptainAmerica that I have also read that the boat horns can be loud, especially in the mornings and evenings. Either way, it's the Poly and you can't go wrong with either view!

We had the same debate for an upcoming trip but we have a big group and five rooms over nine nights gets expensive. One thing I read is that the lake view rooms can be loud, specifically from boat and ferry horns.
Having stayed in both, the boat horns are no different on Moorea facing the lagoon or away. Or honestly they were just as loud 3rd floor Pago Pago facing Moorea. When the door is closed, they are hardly noticeable. MK resorts are loud as a whole with fireworks and EWP so we always bring a noise machine. JMO staying in all the buildings at PVB. YMMV of course but also you need to completely secure the sliding door to drown out outside noise. I will say kids screaming while crying (as in they were not trying to be rude) were far louder for me.

I will add I am a suburbanite only a few miles from downtown and Ohio State main campus who also has lived in the city for a few years. I might be far more adapted to noise than a more quiet suburbanite or rural dweller and am used to sleeping with white noise. My favorite noise machine is this one Amazon product ASIN B074FFW5W4

Ugh that stupid EWP. Fort Wilderness might be the most peaceful and tranquil place on property until those stupid floats go chirping by, every. single. night.

Aww I adore EWP but my first stay in '82 introduced me to it. Oddly was at Ft Wilderness but in a camp site far away so we had to go to it. I love it but it is far noisier than any other sound IMO at MK area.

I love the EWP. And last time we stayed at Bay Lake I missed hearing it go past because we had one of those half lake, half MK view rooms at the north end of the tower.
On the other side it's almost obnoxiously loud with how it echos. But we watched it nightly. My only sadness with CCV vs BRV is that views are are nearly impossible from the room at night. Or at least so far it seems that way. BRV lake side is excellent if down farther.

booooo BOOOOOO!! Not my captain! 😄

I don't think lake view is worth the cost over standard. One really needs to "hope" for an upper floor view. We usually request Tokelau and walk either to the beach or Tokelau third floor stairs to watch from the landing.

I don't think ship noise is a big deal either for same reasons helenabear shared. I'd add that the pool side Tokelau is often louder than the boats.

I've stayed with and without views and they have pros and cons. The gardens are great on the inside, and private fireworks viewing is great on the lake. I think the horns are about the same, but I like them. I have a little bit of a personal problem with the bungalows, they aren't that obstructive of fireworks but they do obstruct the lake itself and I wind up thinking about them too much. I'd like to see EWP once per stay, somehow.

It depends if a view would wow you or not, or if it doesn't matter that much. That being said, if you request the 2nd or 3rd floor lake view, it is one of the most ideal view rooms in all of Disney World. It is a direct facing view of the castle and space mountain looking over a lake. Not off to the left or turn your head or whatever like most at Grand Floridian (GF has a few that are direct, but not really over a lake either because of the angle), directly out your window over the lake. Not over a parking lot like over at Contemporary. So if a view like that would wow you and want to spend time on the balcony, this particular one is worth the points.
