Poly needs your $$$

You know what's funny?
That line of thinking doesnt work in the world of high end luxury hotels... Try $650/night to stay at the Waldorf Astoria, and see if they give you a free cabana... they will laugh in your face...

huh...that was my point...resorts charge for cabanas...with or without amenities...with or without extra services

I never use the pool either and wouldn't partake of the cabanas, but, it is about time that the greedy, uncaring guest is unable to stake a claim for a location, deprive others of using it and then only showing up there later. It is wrong and again the prime reason why we can't have nice things without extra charges. In this case I don't blame them for doing it as a cash grab. They could do it without, but, this makes it neat and unarguable. Probably when you add up the CM time fielding complaints from the people that were screwed out of a cabana because of a self-centered jerk, they will probably take a while to recoup that cost alone.

From what I've been told it's not really a money grab but more about what was referred to in a previous post, crowd control. They were seeing people going early, grab a cabana and then leave their stuff and comeback later. And they'd do that day after day during their stay. That was never the intent. People were supposed to use them and then someone else would get a chance.

Charging for them keeps the number of people using them down though i mentioned that an hourly rate as well might have been a good idea.

If the pool is that crowded (they built more rooms?) then they should build more pool capacity. Never stayed there but was shocked to hear they don't have pool waiters, cabanas with fridge, TV and personal attendant etc. How can they do that in this day and age and charge what they do? I mean they took out the freaking fountain after all.

I agree. $25-40 isn't going to generate a noticeable amount of revenue for Disney, so I can't call this a cash grab. Now when they book up every day, then I wouldn't be surprised to see prices doubled which would then be unreasonable for what's being offered.

I agree...in this day and age, and knowing the customer for the premium resorts, they absolutely should have built fully equipped cabanas...and the Premium Resorts should all have wait staff at the pool... Typical Disney t charge the price of a Waldorf Astoria and give you Ramada Inn style service.

Not sure the fountain made the best pool area...

They just upgraded the quiet pool and made it about as large as they could. Unfortunately there isn't much free space at the Poly for another pool, and they technically have roughly what the other deluxe resorts have (other than Y&B of course).

I never gave the cabanas any thought, personally I wouldn't want to see them full service. I'd rather see them remain available to everyone, even if it's at a small cost just to reserve them. Full service would mean the price would jump to a ridiculous rate.

Ok I just have to defend the Polynesian for a second.

I was sad when they removed the fountain. It was a favorite of mine and I equate so many Disney memories with that lobby.

Having said that, the new lobby is very nice. The room decor is my favorite out of all of them. The new pool area is awesome. Ask my kid about his favorite things on his first Disney trip- one of the first he will say is the volcano slide.

I don't stay at that resort because they have Waldorf ammentites. We checked out of Poly last year and headed straight to Key West to the Casa Marina for a week- a Waldorf hotel. He preferred Poly, I prefer the Casa Marina.

I stay there for the convenience, the view, the pools, and the atmosphere. I think that's why most Poly guests stay there as well.

Hold on a second.

Are you trying to tell me that TDO listened to guest feedback, identified a problem and then came up with a very reasonable solution to solve that problem?

NO WAY!!! IT HAS TO BE A CASH GRAB!!! ;)

Why couldn't Disney just enforce a policy that states a cabana left unoccupied for more than an hour will be turned over and restored for other guests?y

Because it evolves a negative CM interaction with a guest. Something Disney avoids to the extreme.

Don't ask me why but a "cabanas by reservation only" sign will deter 99% of people without a single complaint.

A CM gathering up a families stuff that has been in the pool for 62 minutes will not.

A problem that could have been solved without charging both good and bad users....
So one person can plop down all day while their family is swimming or eating lunch etc? That's what happens. This way prevents that from happening. Like I said, I'm good with this. I think a lot of people who stay there will be good with it.
I also think the people who are complaining about it have no vested interest and just want to do their normal insisting that "Disney is horrible". Even when these upcharges actually consist of more positives than they do of negatives.

Because you couldn't devise a model that minimized that? Like a 30min grace period? *rolleyes*

Just because Disney is adverse to something doesn't make it a better outcome for guests. You are letting the minority abusers ruin it for everyone instead of addressing the actual problem customers.

Of course, because we must never admit that inconsiderate selfish people may actually be the reason to why we need upcharges and regulation of public areas.

So instead of banning fake accounts here, you'd be ok if wdwmagic just opted to charge everyone to post to combat the fake accounts?

No. I am not doing anything. Disney is.

They saw a problem and decided to fix it in a way they thought would best serve them and their customers.

If I or anyone else does not like it they can complain to Disney and/or not use the service.
