We are going to be staying at the Polynesian May 24th -27th. We're interested in trying to go to the Luau. Does anyone have any good or bad experiences and would you think that right now it's too late to try and make a reservation? Are kids also allowed? Any comments are appreciated.:animwink:

I'm Surrounded by Idiots
When me and my family went in April of 1996 they had both a kids luau and a luau for adults. We went to the one for kids and it was very good the food was great and if you have kids they can participate in a part of the show. It was a pretty good show, I have no complaints about it. I don't know if kids are allowed at the later show but you can always call and ask. Well I hope you have fun on your trip and good luck getting reservations for the show.

Never tried it, but have heard about it. It seems that people say good things about it, but I have a problem with spending the price of park admission for a dinner.

I did it in 98 and had a lot of fun with my friends, but wouldn´t pay for that again. The service was not so friendly, and the food was not abundant at all. It wasn´t very good either. The show was ok, though. I was picked to go on stage and that was a plus, but other than that... it was not very impressive... too much of the same and a fashion parade...
I rather pay for the dinner at Ohana´s... no show, but a lot more and better tasting food! :slurp:

We did it in 2000. Food and service were both great-- we really had no complaints. We loved the show. But it was really expensive. If we hadn't been on our honeymoon we would not have bothered.

They don't have the kid's luau anymore. I'd recommend Ohana's too. There are a lot of kid's activities there and it's a LOT cheaper.

We'll be at Polynesian at the same time. Have a good trip :)

My husband and myself, and two adult friends went to the luau two years ago. It was very expensive...and very long.
It was as much a history and geography lesson as entertainment, I thought. The food wasn't great.
Many people, including us, left before the show was over. I wouldn't do it again...but I want to add that the dancers were great and very polished.....just not my cup of tea, I guess.

Meega, nala kwishta!
We used to go every time we went to WDW (about every 3-5 years or so).

We last went to the Luau 5 years ago.

When we first went, about 10-15 years, it was great, but IMO, it's gone downhill.

The last time it was dull. The show was not much more than a fashion show. The food was not good, and we didn't get much at all. I used to remember the food was great, and they kept bringing it until you were stuffed, and it was all you can drink too.

The service was even allful.

We will not be doing this show ever again, and in fact we skipped it for the first time last year. Save the money, and go to Ohana's.

To answer you question Chropistopy, I remember it was around $50, but I may be wrong... we were a large group and had a cast member´s discount, so thank God I didn´t pay that much! I would suggest you again the food at Ohana´s which is kinda similar but better tasting and extremely abundant! One of the most impressive parts of the show at the Luau is the guy with the fire, and you can see him also at the Lion King Festival in AK... hehe ;)

Thanks everyone for the replys! I don't know if we want to spend that much money on something that is just ok. We'll debate it somemore, but at this point I don't know if we'll even be able to get reservations.

Here are some comments about the Luau. They are a mixed bag.

If you want a dinner theater experience, you might consider the Hoop-De-Do Musical Review. Again, the comments are mixed.

Haven't done the luau, but I did do 'Ohana. You can't go wrong. You will leave s t u f f e d.
