Poll on scooter

So I have been reading up on scooters for my next trip some time this winter. I have seen and hear HORROR stories about guest using scooters from both people in them and people not.

With my genetic disease, my energy goes fast and I love WDW. So my wife and I are going to get a scooter for me to use from a private company so I can use it other then the parks. We are staying either at the CBR or the contemp. Both great hotels and we have stayed at both before. the Contemp has the monorail advantage but much higher $$. CBR much cheaper but buses not the best for scooters.

given the scooter would you stay longer and use busses or shorten the stay for monorail?

My husband had back issues last trip and needed a scooter and it was the best decision we made. The WORST park to navigate with the scooter was MK. It was essential for getting around Epcot and AK and definitely helped his getting around in DHS. That being said, I don't think the monorail will have much of an advantage for you. If you were planning to stay at CBR I would stick with that plan and stay longer!

Don't live your life to the expectations of others. If you need the scooter then use it how you feel best. Stay longer and use the bus. Just remember to be courteous and If someone gets upset about your use of a scooter then just remember, that is more about them than about you. ;)

If you stay at Contemporary you can walk/use ecv to the MK, use monorail for Epcot, and bus to Studios and AK.

If you stay at an Epcot resort, you can walk/use ecv to Epcot and Studios, bus to others.

Or at Caribbean Beach, bus to all.

I'd use bus over monorail every time.

Speaking from experience, the monorail is more convenient and faster, but, while less comfortable, there should be no major problem with using the buses.. Even with staying at a monorail resort there are some parks that would still require either a car or a bus to get there.

Our suggestion for using the buses is, unless you are first in line or close to it, wait for the next bus. Don't come wheeling up at the last moment as you would still be loaded first, much to the dismay and even anger of those already waiting for the bus. Your waiting does a lot to help the happiness of all involved. Particularly at night when people ar tired, hot, grumpy, carrying sleeping children, etc. I know, you would like to be on that bus, but the next bus may not be nearly as crowded.

Go with the scooter. Sounds like you will gain more by using one than not. Youll be more comfortable, and conserve energy to do more in a day. The bus loading and unloading isnt that bad to handle. More advantage to using your hard earned money on other things than upgrading to Contemp..

Save your money and book an Epcot resort. I am not sure if this is a viable option for you or not, but it will make it easier so you can visit 2 parks without worrying about using a bus. There can be some good rates for Swan/Dolphin Yacht Club or Boardwalk if you look around. Renting DVC points and staying at the Boardwalk Villas in a studio would definitely be price compatible to CBR.

Speaking as a wife of a guy who needs to rent an EVC but has not wanted to in the past....Rent one and stay where you are most comfortable. I am miserable when he is in pain and I feel like I cut short my days and focus all my attention to him, making sure he does not need to sit and rest. I would have a much better time if he was not in pain and I would not mind waiting for him to board a bus or a monorail. To me it beats watching him limping and wincing.

or, something else altogether. i just used an outside company scooter last week at WDW. i got the small portable one, it really did break down in under 15 seconds into 4 easy to handle pieces and we put them in the trunk. renting a car would cost more than using buses but a lot easier and cost less than staying at contemporary and you could stay longer.
