Several years in IT have made me an email addict. However, my cheapness prevents this addiction from getting its fix in WDW, as I won't pay the $10 per day.

That, my dear friend, is why the Devil invented the Blackberry. Which also comes in handy for sending emails to your coworkers describing in detail exactly which ride you went on, how nice the weather is, what a nice leisurely lunch you had, and of course ask them to help decide whether you should go to a park this evening or go see a show. Just to cheer up their life in their little cubicle a little. :goodnevil

When I travel I often times don't actually book a hotel, which is one reason why I like to have a laptop to find last minute deals. I can also look up restaurants, get directions, and find last minute events. Also, for those who travel Jet Blue and go through JFK, they have free internet at the airport, which can help make your layover a little easier.

Thinking twice about it...

I've brought my laptop a couple times because I needed to unload some pictures. I got a new camera with a bigger memory card and I'm thinking twice about bringing it again.
For boarding passes (Southwest) the concierge is usually nice enough to print them off for us. So, I'm really thinking I'm not bringing it on our trip the next time!!!
Have a magical day! :)

I have to take mine because of my job. As long as it's with me, I use it to download the camera and to check a few key web sites.

Like most IT pros, my laptop is like a ball and chain. So when I visit WDW my laptop visits WDW. I help support a group of large hospitals so I'm oncall 24/7/365.

Just like Jmicro I am a network admin and I use it for work aan awful lot. I take mine to disney incase I am needed and to use on the plane and to copy my pics from the camera.

I take one sometimes, mainly to watch DVD's on the plane or play music in the room when there's no CD player. however, with the new security members, I'm always scared they'll make me check it and it will get stolen, so I haven't taken it the last couple of trips.

I cary my laptop, iPod, digital camera, and cell phone when I go to Disney.

Laptop is PURELY for entertainment on the plane and to upload photos from my digital camera. iPod is for the trip there and back. Camera used all the time, along with the cell.

My dad usually brings his work lappy too to get on the internet. I try to stay away from it. :p

I never take my laptop. One I use to use it to dump my cameras pics onto but now the large memory of the cards i dont have to do that anymore. And also limited internet access in the past made it useless for me. Now I am just use to not having it down there.

My husband is 1/3 of the IT support (or 'computer dudes') here at work, so he has to be able to get to his email while on vacation. He also has to bring his phone along with him, which I don't like, but I can't do much about. He is always on call, since, without fail, there is always a coach or administrator traveling who is having internet or computer problems.

I like to have the laptop for the same reason, since my coaches are way to dependant on me. I usually have at least one email with the line, "and where do we keep the spare pens" or "I ran out of recruiting packets" or "where are the stamps?". I was smart enough to not give them my cell phone number....

It also came in handy on our last trip when the kids that were with us got bored, and they were able to go on to disney.com and play the kids games on there.

Guess I'm old school. (Although I am tech savvy)

Don't own a laptop, but wouldn't take it if I did.
Would worry too much about what happened to it, for one thing. (Airline, hotel room, etc)

For another, I really enjoyed doing what we did on our last trip: No e-mail, no radio, no television and no newspapers for 5 straight days!
Of course, it was all available if I needed it, but I loved being voluntarily cut off from the world.

That's going to be the legacy of the computer age. People seeking out isolation...

No way...wouldn't dream of taking one for any reason. I live with the thing in real life due to work. No work...no blasted laptop.:sohappy:

We take my laptop for movies for the kids if we are flying and mainly for downloading photos.....
DH brings his work laptop just in case something comes up and he needs to check email and everything. I don't generally check email or go online while on vacation just because I am too busy running around with the kids.

I have to for work, but I do also use it to store pictures. This way I can save every single one I take until I can decide if its usable on a 17 inch laptop screen rather than a 3.5 inch camera screen.

It bothers me how many people take their laptop for work. Doesn't anyone get to take a real vacation?

Me either - my cell phone rings like it does every other day...

EDIT: Although the poll doesn't really seem to match how many people say they take theirs for work...

We take our laptop to download pictures, which we usually send home to family via email during our vacation. It also allows us to look at our photo pass pictures without having to visit a park location.

Interesting thing about email. This last trip, I got back the day my coworker went down. I brought my laptop and Blackberry, she did not. When I got back, I had several emails to attend to, but it was no overwhelming. She got back and spent her day just catching up with everything. So while yeah, I did do some "work", it was light and done when I was waiting around, etc. so when I got back, I was under a whole lot less stress.
