Corrus,

I don't believe Jim Hil, just saying what he stated in his article. This seems to be like a big internet story and nothing more. No one seems apprehensive when I'm at the park, it usually has a decent wait time and most people come off the ride really enjoy it.

Either way, it gets Disney "press" for free. People like riding crazy stuff :)

I assume there's a merch stop the size of TT's when you exit Mission Space, right? I'm sure there will be "souvenir" barf bags sold in there with catch-phrases and Mission Space logos all over it.

I think once the majority of thrill seekers from around the world finally get a chance to ride, over the next few years, it will have the opposite effect, whereby a "what's the big deal?" mindset grows.

I think the barf bags can really only help the CM's who are involved with the attraction as far as keeping a steady flow and avoiding a greater amount of cleanups. But there will always be those who are "too macho" to use them, get up and start to walk and still yack out in the exit area.

Having not been on M:S yet i can't say what its like. However, being someone who does get quesy on some spinning rides (mostly the vertical rides that go round in circles if you know the ones i mean - they ain't found at Disney ofc.) I WILL NOT be put off riding M:S and i most certainly will not be taking a barf bag unless it gets a symbol on it!

I hope people don't get put off riding M:S as it sounds like such a great experience (just look at some people on this site - 100+ rides!). Howver if people do get oput off, at least its shorter waits in line for the rest of us!

I don't know if it will have much of an effect. However, I think it may help in convincing those who really aren't "suited" for the ride to really think about going on it and if they decide to and unfortunately get sick, there is something there to "comfort" them. A lot of people don't listen to the warnings, despite now not being able to look almost in any direction in the inside queue and not see something about motion sickness. Those who are susceptible still want to ride it and I don't blame them. Its a great ride and I think the pre-shows help to pump up your excitement. But if you see motion sickness bags, it just might make you think, geez they're not kidding and either choose to bypass it or adhere strongly to the warnings to look ahead and not close your eyes.

I bet a lot of the people getting ill are parents. You strap yourself and kid into the ride and then launch comes and you know your kid is feeling the G's like you and you are bound to look over and check him/her out. But in the meantime, you are turning your head pretty far since the barriers in between the seats make it difficult as it is to see the person next to you.

Of course, there is also the possibility that people who have seen Disney thrill rides as tame, especially at Epcot, will give it another thought and come and try MS out.

Either way, I don't think it will have a major impact on total riders in the long run.

I was at WDW over the Thanksgiving Holiday with a marching band, and including adults, there were about 150 people in our group. I know that over half of these people rode M:S, and most of them loved it. Some people felt some effects of motion sickness, and two actually lost their lunches. I was riding with someone who was very nervous about the ride, and when it ended, she was bearly out of the capsule before she through up. Everyone, including the two who got sick on the ride, said that it was a good experience.

About the bags- I think they are good. I mean, how many people dont ride airplanes because they have barf bags? I dont think it will have much of an effect.

P.S. The girl I was riding with was the ONLY person I actually witnessed get sick. I was only able to ride it twicve though.

Barf Bags, you say?

Well, I've got three words for them............Bring It On!

Of course it will scare some people away, and entice others, and not make a difference to many other people, so I guess I'd answer yes to all three, if I could. Since I can't I'm gonna pick the one that speaks for me, which just makes the ride more enticing, especially after the comments from Rcoaster809 that even many of the people that do throw up still have an awesome ride.

Is the motion sickness problem because people do not hold their heads back as they are instructed to do 10 or 15 times? I didn't get sick at all, its a great ride, but you've got to look straight ahead. I dont think it will scare people away if they understand that to not get sick all they have to do is look straight

I still bet that a lot who get sick look around and perhaps for good reasons......such as being a parent with your kid next to you. I guarentee any caring/worried parent will look over at their child to make sure they are ok during the launch and other "intense" aspects of the ride. Unfortunately for them this just causes motion sickness as you should never look around during the ride.

Same place I have ever seen someone get sick....but I can see why people could get sick after riding M:S...I still think though its rider error...the ride doesn't make MOST people sick so I don't think its a problem...

Maybe this whole thing is some kind of publicity stunt...last night I saw a news report about the barf bags on the local news...(they made reference to JIM HILL.com...I was like  , they even showed a clip from a phone convo). *sigh*

how bad is it?

i'm a wimp.

i don't like scary rides like rollercoasters, space/splash mtn, tower of terror, etc. or other rides that make you feel like you have no control and something bad is about to happen... the farthest i go is like dinosaur in ak and the goofy barnstormer in toontown.

is mission space scary? i think it looks really cool and i was really looking forward to it until i saw that commercial where the kids trick their parents into going on it and it looks bad! and now all of this talk about barf bags! :lookaroun

can someone please give me a detailed description of what is actually involved and how it makes you feel???

Other EPCOT attractions that make you barf

I have personnally cleaned up the exit area of the 3D movie at Imagination several times! I think Michael Jackson's movie was playing back then. Enough said. We used a product called "Vo Ban" which looked like pencil shavings and totally killed the smell and absorbed the liquid.

The supervisor was impressed that I would do that job since I was just working in her area to get some extra cash and it wasn't my regular job.

Very happy to report I was working OVERTIME at that time, so it was worth it. Back then you got your regular rate of pay regardless of what you job you did.:p Easy money.....worked by yourself with virtually no supervision and you were free to talk to guests as much as you wanted to. As long as you swept as you went by!

If only people would pay attention to the warnings and not ride after a meal then no one would be getting sick at all!!!!!

Well, I sure heeded the warnings and skipped the ride, and I was glad I did! I think the problem is that it make people who didn't EXPECT to, get sick. Personally, I saw so many ill people get off the ride that I think barf bags are a hygenic necessity - but I don't feel that they will become a self-fulfiling prophecy.
