hi, this is my first post.

i'm not really sure if it even belongs in this forum-or wether an "intro first post" is even common practice here- but i thought it the polite thing to do before i jump in.

about 4 months ago, after returning from an annual family trip down to DL, i started searching around the internet for more information about an upcoming WDW trip and i soon found myself becoming obsessed. OBSESSED with all things Disney.

i never in a million years ever would have thought it could happen to me............and yet i find myself being drawn to these websites where i spend hours & hours going over silly nilly subjects.........i have already read through 6 different guidebooks...........and everynight before i go to sleep i play out each park day in my mind.

only my closest family has caught on to it but its probably only a matter of time before i start adverstising the fact. my husband likes to make fun of me and i fear i may overdose my children on disney films & trivia to the point of pushing them off the stuff for good...........

oh dear! what should i do? how does this happen?

do you think it is successful disney marketing? or a need to return to happy times in my own childhood? or just simple ol' disney magic?

Welcome to the forums!!!!

 :king:

My goodness, you sound like a totaly Disney fan. I would say I'm about in the same boat as you. Ever since coming back from my college program in fall 2000...I've had Disney on my mind 24/7. It's scary, but I LOVE it. I talk to my family about it all the time and they've practically given up on me. they now tell me to just pack up and move! To help from disney withdrawls I tend to visit anything Disney related as much as possible...this site being the best source for WDW info. To help my Disney blues, I tend to collect anything WDW/Disney too, you wouldn't beleve how much stuff I accumulated. But hey it's all about keeping the magic alive :D

I believe you will find that most people here have more Disney merchandise and guide books at home than anybody should consider having at home. Hey, I send off for a vacation planning video every year just to continue my collection. You are in the right place no doubt. All the employees at three different Disney Stores know me when I come in to look (and buy).

Welcome to WDWMagic. It's an interesting 'net-home, to say the least & it sounds like you'll fit in with the rest of us just fine! Most of us can totally relate to your obsession. I only came out & admitted my addictions about 4 years ago. Before that, I was a closet Disney nut. Yes, all of my dolls & toys were kept hidden in the kids' closet. :D

Ummm...ok...no sleep last night, I'm allowed to be a little out of sorts today, so just deal with it. All of you regulars know she's going to have to get used to this kind of thing anyway, so I'm preparing her!

Once again....welcome aboard! Glad to have ya!

*waves hi* Welcome

Don't mind Brian or Tenchu, they are harmless and sweet...

there are alot of insomniacs and people who don't get enough sleep around here so ... fair warning (hey.. I got five hours.. stop looking at me like that guys.. I didn't even fall asleep in calc) :)

I don't think I've ever been a "closet case". I went down to work in FL for 7 months on an internship... my parents consider themselves lucky I came back but.. I still may leave again *hehehe*

well thank you for your warm welcomes, and its good to know everyone has a sense of humor (after posting i wondered if my post might be taken the wrong way-like i was making fun of disney-a-holics...but it was nice to see it wasn't!)

sounds like i'm in good company!

any words of wisdom on how NOT to allow the obsession to take over completely?

like the pin trading for example.........i've been itching to start but i'm a little afraid of how crazed some people seem to get over it.

and how do you curb yourself from spending all your money at the disney store? (is this the wrong group to ask?)

also, just out of curiousity:
WHY do you think we are all obsessed with it?

I'll take the last two, and um... first of all, don't let my Avatar give you the wrong idea, I am always fun loving Spider-man, I just got my Halloween face on. :animwink:

Anywho... Disney seems to be solving that problem for us I think. the more they retailor their stores to be young children toys and clothes only, the harder it is for me to spend money. Plus with the discontinuation of the Disney Club Card, I think my major Disney spending days are gone for the time being.

Second... everyone needs a hobby. Disney is a very positive hobby if any I would say. I think most of us see the hard work, detail, and care that go into most things Disney and appreciate that. We also love to be the kids at heart that encomposses most things Disney. There is special effort given to make you feel happy , unique, and loved when you go to the parks (in general) and when you associate with a particular character from a film. Overall there is a close kinship with Disney fans (as you will find out here) that is partly brought about because of Disney touches, but in return our kinship and generally love of fun helps us build Disney at the same time. It's a mutual gain of respect on both sides. I do not think it is a bad thing to have a habbit of something so pure and descent.

Ok...here goes

Don't fight the obsession....This is the first addiction that is OK (ok, so most of society will look at you like you are strange...but this society won't)

Pin trading... Ok, well, that's an addiction in itself...Ok, if you want to start collecting pins...take it one step at a time...only buy pins of specific characters, rides, shows, hotels, etc. that interest you...DO NOT BUY a pin...JUST TO BUY A PIN (for a collection) For instance, I only buy pins that include Walt or the parks themselves (or special events...like the 100 years of Magic)

Ok, the Disney Store... (GO IN WITHOUT YOUR WALLET OR PURSE!)
(yes, definitely the wrong group to ask  )

Magic...that is why we are all obsessed with it...MAGIC. It is an escape from reality...all of our dreams come true in WDW... (ok, so all of our CLEAN dreams come true in WDW) You can be a prince or princess, a villain, a hero...ANYTHING YOU WANT...and it's "SAFE" ) Everybody becomes a child again when they step through the gates of Walt Disney World...and it is probably the only place on earth where the inner child in all of us comes out.

I knew I shouldn't have told you anything. I'll never hear the end of this.

Harmless??? Far from it! Personally, I'm scarred for life from just conversing with him!! :animwink: Be forewarned!!

Oh, ok...he DOES have a semi-sweet side. Shhh....don't tell him I said that or I'll never live it down.
