Please Use Both Sides

A severe lack in guest critical thinking and reading comprehension skills led to a verbal altercation that ended in my fiance crying today at Blizzard Beach.

Now that we've calmed down we realize that it's ultimately funny, which is why I will detail it below:

We went to ride Runoff Rapids today to find a line of around 40 people to the right side, and an empty left side. The sign in front says "please use both sides" and we asked the guests toward the back if they were waiting for the enclosed slide or just waiting in general, to which it was determined they were all waiting for the enclosed slide. We then took the left lane, and a party of four joined behind us.

As we walk to the front of the (empty) left line, three separate Men who all looked like Curly from "The Three Stooges" began to yell solely at my fiance. I don't feel like writing out all of what was said to her, but it was awful. We showed them the (multiple) signs stating "please use both sides" to which they acknowledged and then immediately continued yelling at her. We were attempting to diffuse the situation by saying we wanted to ask the cast member in front and would gladly go to the back of the line if we were wrong, but it appeared that these machismo specimens weren't looking for a solution, but simply an outlet to vent their inadequacies, and the barrage kept coming solely at my fiance.

(This is a tangent, and the only comment made by them that I will post here, as I enjoyed the exchange.

Angry Man: "Do you think your time is worth more than ours? You just cut us all"

Me: "Yes, because I can read signs.")

We reach the cast member with my fiance at this point in tears (I feel really bad still and that I should've done more) asking the cast member if we had done something wrong and that we would go to the back of that was the case.

The cast member immediately replied "No, there are two lines for the different slides. You didn't do anything wrong. Please use both sides".

At this point, multiple things happened.

1) I watched the multiple men shut their mouths in unison.
2) Two onlookers and the people behind us began accosting back the sad middle aged men.
3) The cast member ensured my fiance was okay, and asked who did this. This caused one of them to go down the slide as fast as humanly possible, to which we never saw them again. The other two were still in line, but it was as if they had shrunk.

We rode the slide, but frankly our day was ruined. The cast members did a great job and I wish I spoke up more, but no matter what I said they wouldn't give me really the time of day. Human behavior is strange. I'm rambling now because I'm still peeved about this, but please, just use both sides.

Don’t let people like that ruin your day! You did everything correctly and were following the signs! Some people are like lemmings and will flow into one side of a line even though both sides are open.
People don't understand how their words effect others. She took it like a champ, but past experiences in life definitely led to her crying because of the overwhelming way they were talking (and the fact it was all men).

They were targeting her for no reason other than they wanted to yell at a girl. No matter what I said, I couldn't get them to hop off yelling at her. And I wasn't about to:

A) curse in front of a child
B) hit anyone

The family behind us and the people in the walkway above were both defending her, but these slugs just would not stop being disgusting to her.

The worst part is I feel they'll never learn. To be that angry and disgusting while simultaneously being objectively and completely incorrect (not that it's okay if you are correct) is astounding. And they simply seemed to be incapable of compartmentalizing the fact that they were wrong, and their decisions led a longer wait time and agitation. Or they were simply waiting for the enclosed slide, which we were never going to ride in the first place!

I'd imagine being that wound up 24/7 is a contributing factor in why they were all bald already. I'm just being mean now for no reason other than I'm venting. Sorry.

They NEED to fix the runoff rapids queue. It’s so inconsistent with how the queue is run. Many people form one line, as there are never enough tubes on the conveyor belt and the slides sit with their green lights on for lengthy periods of time. Technically you are still supposed to use both sides, but given that you have to wait for a tube to go down any slide, few do. You didn’t do anything wrong, but most people form one line as the two line system no longer makes sense.

Yeah we noted (being light on words here) to the GR cast members at the front that there either needs to be a cast member at the entrance emphasizing two lines or just make it one line, because something like this should never happen.

We've never been to Blizzard Beach before, and this was really souring. I'm not sure we'll go back, but it wasn't the cast members fault. It doesn't make sense at all.

Edit: Also the entire way up the stairs shows the left side being uncovered flume, and the right side being enclosed flume. But then also when you get to the top the right also has an uncovered flume? It doesn't make any sense.

It’s amazing how stupid and inconsiderate people can be…as a left handed person, I ALWAYS start to the left…supermarkets, WDW…it’s always less crowded…everyone naturally goes right.
I wish I was there or God forbid, my wife…

The single-finger salute was called for. Harassing another guest seems to be cause for park expulsion; they are lucky the cast member didn't have them escorted off the property.

I’ve actually had the opposite thing happen at the skyliner. Nobody was using the right hand line so I used it, and the CM insisted that I “wait my turn” and proceeded to board multiple groups from the left ahead of me.

I didn’t argue, I didn’t care and wasn’t in a hurry but thought it was very strange.

I do like how well labeled the Skyliner is… I think Runoff Rapids wouldn’t have many issues if they put a rope up down the center. There would be some lost guests, but it would help more than it would confuse. And it would clearly be two separate lines. BUT, there’s no point in trying to have two lines if there are never any tubes available and the slides are sitting empty. Disney has to increase the number of tubes (maybe hire someone to unload the tubes like they did when the conveyor first opened), and then they can divide the line.

On the note of the Skyliner, I like seeing how everyone just follows the person in front so one line tends to be much longer…

The lines were noooooot quite idiot-proof. I would think better signage would have helped a lot. like, two divided lines with the entrances clearly marked.

You are 100% in the right with how you're feeling and how you handled it. I'm just saying WDW has to appeal to a lower denominator when using signage.

On the flip side, you would think the 3 stooges would have done a better job at clogging the whole isle, if they did in fact think there was only one line. Why did they leave a left side at all?

It must’ve been the same pushy CM that gave you a hard time at the security line…must’ve changed jobs…lol

The entire line has a long painted strip on the floor separating the concrete into two equal parts, with red flags with the words "Please Use Both Sides" along the railing. As you go up to the entrance, the stairs have the left side marked "open" and the right side marked "enclosed." I don't understand how it could be interpreted any other way.
