A severe lack in guest critical thinking and reading comprehension skills led to a verbal altercation that ended in my fiance crying today at Blizzard Beach.
Now that we've calmed down we realize that it's ultimately funny, which is why I will detail it below:
We went to ride Runoff Rapids today to find a line of around 40 people to the right side, and an empty left side. The sign in front says "please use both sides" and we asked the guests toward the back if they were waiting for the enclosed slide or just waiting in general, to which it was determined they were all waiting for the enclosed slide. We then took the left lane, and a party of four joined behind us.
As we walk to the front of the (empty) left line, three separate Men who all looked like Curly from "The Three Stooges" began to yell solely at my fiance. I don't feel like writing out all of what was said to her, but it was awful. We showed them the (multiple) signs stating "please use both sides" to which they acknowledged and then immediately continued yelling at her. We were attempting to diffuse the situation by saying we wanted to ask the cast member in front and would gladly go to the back of the line if we were wrong, but it appeared that these machismo specimens weren't looking for a solution, but simply an outlet to vent their inadequacies, and the barrage kept coming solely at my fiance.
(This is a tangent, and the only comment made by them that I will post here, as I enjoyed the exchange.
Angry Man: "Do you think your time is worth more than ours? You just cut us all"
Me: "Yes, because I can read signs.")
We reach the cast member with my fiance at this point in tears (I feel really bad still and that I should've done more) asking the cast member if we had done something wrong and that we would go to the back of that was the case.
The cast member immediately replied "No, there are two lines for the different slides. You didn't do anything wrong. Please use both sides".
At this point, multiple things happened.
1) I watched the multiple men shut their mouths in unison.
2) Two onlookers and the people behind us began accosting back the sad middle aged men.
3) The cast member ensured my fiance was okay, and asked who did this. This caused one of them to go down the slide as fast as humanly possible, to which we never saw them again. The other two were still in line, but it was as if they had shrunk.
We rode the slide, but frankly our day was ruined. The cast members did a great job and I wish I spoke up more, but no matter what I said they wouldn't give me really the time of day. Human behavior is strange. I'm rambling now because I'm still peeved about this, but please, just use both sides.
