Please pray for my Granddaddy. He had a heart attack this morning between 8-10am. They put a stint in and he is going to be in the hospital 4 days. He has three more blockages. They are going to do bypass surgery in the next few weeks after he recovers from this surgery. I just got home at 4:00. Left home at 10:00. He's POed because he can't "get up to take a leak" as he put it or he would bleed to death because of the surgery. He's not a very happy man right now. He's blind, he doesn't like women bossing him around and right now, he has 4 female nurses telling him what to do. Nanny is a nervous wreck right now so pray for her too. Thanks.

Sorry to hear that Heather. Its very important that he stay flat now to avoid bleeding from the catheterization site. The stent should help until he is strong enough for surgery. Are there any male nurses in the unit? If there are some accomodations can be made.

I'll keep you all in my prayers.

Ditto!

I see you go to VCU here. Is he at Chippenham Hospital? They have a good cardiac center, as do some of the other hospitals here. We are blessed in that regard.

Sorry to hear the news. Best wishes for your grandfather's speedy recovery. I will keep your family in my prayers. It's hard to be in the hospital and not in control of your surroundings, especially when you are visually impaired. I hope the nurses are sensitive and accomodating to his needs.

No he's at St. Mary's. His heart doctor is there. He works at CP Deans off of Broad. It took them 45min-1hour to get him there (only a 5-10 min ride) because they had to bring him down from upstairs and they gave him some medicine for the pain and get him situated. He's a stubborn man so this has probably been going on for a while but he won't tell you anything. He is on high blood pressure medicine, cunamin, and two other medicines but he stopped taking them. His blood pressure this morning was 239 over 199. Definitely not good. He's doing better now. We came home around 4 after we heard he was doing good because he will be resting for the next few days. He's in guarded condition.

I was waiting on the dishwasher to stop running so I could go take a shower then we were going to get groceries when the phone rang. It was him. My nanny answered the phone and he said "Are you busy? Would you mind meeting me at the hospital? I'm having chest pains." He was having the heart attack while he was on the phone. The pain started when he got to work at 8 and got worse around 9:30-10:00 so they called an ambulance. It just took forever so all kinds of bad thoughts were racing through my nanny's head. My aunt, uncle, great aunt, pastor all came so she had people there for her. I'm not good in those kinds of situations. comforting people I don't do best. I leave it up to the others.

Thanks for all of the well wishes everyone

Both your grandfather and grandmother are in my thoughts. I wish your grandpa a quick and speedy recovery! Like many others on this board told me with my sister, including you, "feel free to vent."

I will definitely keep them in my prayers. My grandpa suffered from heart disease for years. He had quintuple bipass surgery when I was 5 (I'm 22 now). From then until almost a month ago, he suffered on and off with many different heart ailments. He passed on April 17 (I still don't believe it, it was so sudden), but his bypass bought him an extra 16 years. In that time he saw many new grandchildren and great grandchildren and his 50th wedding anniversary. I wish the same for your granddaddy (minus the death part). I hope and will pray that his surgery will be successful and that he will have many more wonderful years with his family.

Heather, I will pray for a speedy recovery for your grandfather. It's hard I know, because my grandmother had the open heart surgery to replace a heart valve. She was in the hospital for 2 months. It was hard, but we got through it and I know your grandpa will get through it.

The hospital called this morning around 7:30. He is doing better but they had to restrain him  They were trying to do something and he got ticked off and so they had to restrain him to the bed. Yep he's getting better! Thanks everybody
