Please help! You are wonderful, have been reading for awhile. I just joined and decided to request help.

We are staying at POFQ, June 5-9. I have a game plan (devised reading these boards and Unofficial Guide), but need to check with you most experienced fans!

My plan:
Sat: Arrive, PS at Boma
Sun: MGM
Mon: MK (PS at Chef Mickey's - dinner)
Tues: AK (Fantasmic Dinner Package)
Wed: Tie up loose ends

Everything I am now reading has me a bit confused. Do Star Wars days at MGM get SUPER crowded (not for us!)? This would be our Sunday, and I'm not sure my two boys (7 & 10) and husband would care enough about Star Wars to deal with that. Is Monday truly one of the busiest days at MK? We also want to spend some quality time at AK, as my 7-year old is a true animal fan. We are trying to avoid Extra Magic Hour, and we have a car. Is this schedule better?:

Sun: AK
Mon: MGM/Fantasmic
Tues: MK

Any comments/suggestions would be much appreciated! I am truly anticipating some great feedback - have learned so much here already (love those codes!)!

Thanks so much!

:sohappy: :sohappy: Can't wait!

Hi there and welcome to the boards!!! A few points on the schedule:
Boma for dinner?? Definitely not my thing at ALL!!!! I ate there for the first time for dinner in December and was not happy at all. I didnt care for the food as it was too exotic for me. The only things I was comfy eating was the prime rib and mac and cheese from the kiddie food bar!!! I was very disappointed as I had heard they were great and I loved the breakfast buffet there!!! You may want to review the dinner offerings to make sure it is in line with your palate!!!! Here is alink to a listing of the menu for thislocation: http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menu_bomadin.htm
Sunday- I had heard Star Wars Weekends are a little nuts also. Are you into meeting the actors from the movies? When are you going? Not to be nosy but they have announced who is going to be there on each of the weekends. I would like to meet some of the stars, others I can take or leave so that may make a difference. If it doesnt make a difference to you why dont you switch this to AK as you said and then after AK closes go to EPCOT for dinner and Illuminations!! I noticed that EPCOT is missing from your plans, was this an oversight?
Monday is pretty crowded at MK although the Early Entry hour that day is for AK!!!! That usually doesnt bother me that much as I am never up early enough to take advatage of it!!! Just take your time, dont stress over the lines etc. Have the kids choose a few attractions each and be certain to hit those. Other than that just take your time & enjoy it!! Dont forget to stay for Wishes which is just a lovely fireworks show at the parks close
Tuesday Possibly switch to MGM & Fantasmic! Package. Also please read the thread:http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36974
to see what other people ( myself included) think of the package. In May I am not sure you will need to do this especially during the week as school is still on for most of the country at that point. I also dont care for the selection of restaurants offered. My personal favorite restaurant in the 50's Prime Time Cafe which is VERY rarely in the offerings for the Fantasmic! Package. So I choose to eat better and am not too particular on the seats I get for Fantasmic!
Monday and Tuesday would definitely be interchangable.
Wednesday I would go to EPCOT and finish up my trip there. Was there any reason you didnt list this park at all??
Please write back with any other questions, Id love to help!! Belle

Thanks so much for the quick responses! Somehow Belle, I knew you would be one of the first. You are always very quick and helpful to the "newbies".

Yes, you are right, I do need to relax. I am breathing now, in and out, and in....Now, to answer some of your questions:

I intentionally did not yet schedule Epcot. We had to narrow down our choices as my husband has some health problems and we cannot go to all the parks on one visit. We will go for 4 nights, then (just the 4 of us!) to my in-laws' condo south of Tampa for 6 more nights (and relax from our wonderful Disney journey!). We had to pick 3 parks, so of course MK and MGM, and we have to do AK as my son is an animal lover! Hopefully, if we have energy we can do Epcot Wed., but if not, on a future trip (as we will visit the condo each year).

Boma still sounds good to us - we kind of like to try more exotic dishes! However, maybe I will switch the PS to Sun. and do AK that day.

Question for you: Can you do Chef Mickey's for dinner (with our car parked in the lot at Contemporary) then walk over to MK? I know there is a 3 hour limit on parking - is that set in stone? Also, will we even be allowed to walk to MK after Chef Mickey's? THis was the plan, but if this is a problem, maybe we could do Chef Mickey's on arrival day, then ride monorails and watch Electrical Water Pageant at C or Poly. Any tips here would be great! Especially if anyone has other dining suggestions for first day (we do have access to a boat to Downtown Disney from POFQ...).

Oh, yes we will be in the World on June 5-9. I know not all kids will quite be out of school at that time, so do you think crowds will be slightly better than in a few weeks? We are avoiding the Gay Day events only because I do not want to deal with tens of thousands of extra people on lines!

You're right, I will make sure the kids make a list of must-sees and let the rest go. We're usually pretty laid-back people, but I guess the Disney bug bit and I'm getting crazed and excited with my planning!

Thanks for your help!

Welcome!

Welcome! I am a experienced Disney Traveler. I have a annual pass and I go about every other month.

If you can , I would go to Epcot. It is my favorite park. Test Track is a very cool ride. Everybody can do it. Mission: Space can be a little intense for some people, and the fireworks at Epcot are the best on property!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you can get up in the morning, I would take advantage of the Extra Magic Hour. Disney opens the parks at 8:00am for resort guests, and you can get on popular attractions without long waits. Here is a list of the Extra Magic Hours:

Sunday- Magic Kingdom
Monday- Animal Kingdom
Tuesday- MGM
Wednesday- Epcot

Here is a tip on Animal Kingdom: Go there early in the morning! The animals are just awake and eating, so they are more active. Go on the Safari first thing.

Boma's is a great restaurant. Get the Zebra Domes (YUM!) It is a good dessert. Chef Mickeys is also a great restaurant.

Enjoy your time and relax.
(I will just miss you, I am there the week before you).

Welcome......

Your plan sounds great. EMH appeals more to folks who normally get up really early or want to enjoy certain attractions before the theme parks get crowded. Since we're from CA, with the time difference, it's like going to a park at 5am....I think we've made it to 2 EMH in the last 5 years......if you want to avoid them..that's cool

I liked your second agenda better. You avoid EMHs, Star Wars Weekend and MK on a Monday.

Sun: AK
Mon: MGM
Tues: MK
Wed: Pick a park

Watch endurance levels and take a break if needed. It's great to be so close to the parks and have the ability to travel back and forth so easily. Beginning of June is not as bad as end of June and all of July as far as guests go.

Good luck...have fun.

I'm not sure if they'll still have Extra Magic hour then... it may get replaced by Magic Nights...

I'm not sure when they plan to do the switch.

Figmentfan, wish I could be you - the sooner at the parks the better!

Yes, I know my oldest is chomping at the bit to do Mission Space and Test Track. Maybe I really should consider Epcot, at least part of the day...

Jordany., thanks for the feedback. It is a bit hard for hubby and I to move quite that early, and also, aren't the parks uber-crowded the rest of the day after Extra Magic Hour?

Looking foward to being on-site this time!

Bill, what is this? MAGIC NIGHTS! Now that sounds like our speed! We love parks at night! Tell us more, is that similar to E-ride nights, or is it just a flip-flop with Extra Magic Hour?

Hi there again!! Gee I have a rep already?? Well I Am glad it is for being helpful!!! Well I Am glad to see you are breathing, we dont want anyone turning blue!!!
As far as Boma's...Many people do like this place, it just wasnt my cup of tea. I had gone there to have dinner with Kingdom Konsultant and her lovely family! Never mind the seating snafu that occured and I didnt find them for like 40 minutes!!! Pam and I were not happy campers!!! Anyhow if you are into more exotic stuff I think you will really like this place!!! The Lodge itself is lovely and may be nice for a stroll around after dinner to relax.
As far as health problems, would getting an ECV ( One of the electronic wheelchair things) be an option? The parks really are huge and can tire out even healthy people. I looked it up the other day for a friend of mine, Magic Kingdom is 107 acres, MGM is 154, Epcot is 300 and Animal Kingdom is 500 with more acreage undeveloped!
EPCOT really has become one of my favorite parks. Mission:Space and Test Track will wow your children! Id certainly try to schedule a bit of time there even if it is only for a few hours after AK.
Walking to MK from the Contemporary...absolutely!! it is really right there. I know the Polynesian is pretty strict regarding parking in their lot over the three hours that they give you. I havent ever tried to do it at the Contemporary though. The other option is to take the bus from POFQ to the Magic Kingdom and walk over to the Contemporary or take the monorail over ( which ever you prefer) Have dinner, and then hop on back again by foot or monorail.
June 5-9 most of the schools in the South are done by then! You may have the normal summer type crowds to deal with!! Again just get a few firm items in your head and let go from there!! Id say let the boys pick 3-4 items each per park to concentrate on and kinda go from there.
A few words about AK, I happen to like this park but it is the Hottest of the 4 parks. Make sure you are well hydrated for this park. Definitely hit the Safari, the Maharajah Jungle Trek, The Pangani Forest trail and Rafiki's Planet Watch. All of these areas have animal specialists who would be delighted to talk to your son about the animals that are in the area. In Rafiki's Planet Watch, they show you how the animals are cared for by the veternarians!! Your son will love this!! Best time to do the safari is pretty early in the morning as all the animals are out and still pretty close to the roadway as they have just been fed! Later on as it gets hotter they tend to go find shade and not be as visible.

POFQ Is an adorable resort. Plus you are right next door to my southern home PO Riverside!! As POFQ and POR are sister resorts you can stay at one and use the amenities of both! I highly recommend Boatwright's for breakfast. This is the sitdown restaurant at POR and they have the most awesome breakfast. It is only a moderate walk or the boat ride from POFQ.
Downtown Disney has some good restaurants as well. I have eaten at Bongo's ( Owned by Gloria Estefan), & Fulton's Crab house . Both were good, Fulton's is a bit pricey though.
hhhhmm Dinner....Had you looked at the hoop De Doo Revue as an option? It is a bit pricey ( $49.01) per adult, but it is an all you care to eat venue with a dinner show. I have been there twice and really enjoyed myself both times. It is a country style meal with all you can eat fried chicken and BBQ ribs, corn, beans, salad, bread, honey butter( YUM),strawberry shortcake dessert, beer, sangria, soft drinks, hot tea, coffee all included. This price also includes tax and tip for your server! The Country Western dinner show is pretty funny and this is the longest running dinner show on property. You can get there from the Magic Kingdom by boat launch, book the 5 pm show, come back watch the fireworks and then take the bus back to POFQ!
I understand completely about the planning thing. I do it all the time!!! I am currently planning both my May trip as well as one in late July/ early August, so I know where you are coming from. I have to tell you though, without planning, you will end up eating hot dogs and hamburgers every night!! I cant see that when there are so many better options!
Anything else you need please post. Ill be here!!! Belle

Be flexible with your schedule. One thing to consider is the weather. Epcot is good on a rainy day. Large pavillions to keep you dryer. But Animal Kingdom is mostly outdoors. Adjust the parks according to Mother Nature. Have a good time!

Thanks for all the great tips and suggestions.

Yes, the weather, musn't forget the weather. I've got blue ponchos ready to go (to distinguish us from all the Disney yellow!). We have learned from experience. Our first family Disney trip started at Downtown Disney, the first day, completely drenched - most unpleasant....

The AK tips were great. I've read up quite a bit on the attractions, but it's great to hear first-hand how many will appeal to my boy. Yes, we do plan to be there way before opening (just not early entry).

Thanks Belle, yes we will do Chef Mickey's and get there by Disney transport. I managed to change my PS's around. I couldn't get my original Fantasmic choice, but I have Brown Derby. A bit pricer and a bit earlier, but it will be OK to have a great meal earlier and ride when others eat!

ABSOLUTELY we will be taking breaks! I remember 3 years ago when we did MK all day, in July heat with tons of people, with no break. That day sold me on staying on-site. This time, we plan to take a mid-afternoon break every day!

Once again, thanks for all the replies. Again, reading some good info. helps, but you occassionally need help in sorting thru the options (and at Disney there are many!). I feel much more confident about our plans and can now RELAX!

Awesome!!! I am so glad we were able to help!!! Brown Derby was really excellent. I think you will enjoy this. If it is a nice day you can even dine alfresco!!!
Animal Kingdom is a great place. Too many people write it off as a half day park. I Am not so sure if I agree. Dont forget to catch the Tarzan Rocks and Festival of the Lion King shows. I think the boys will like the Tarzan one. Inline skaters, stunts, a live rock band etc are all part of the show!!!
Breaks are a great idea especially when it is so hot and you arent used to it!!! Enjoy the trip and have a great time!! Belle
