Please HELP confirm this Lion King DVD problem

I need the help of anyone who can take the time to verify this for me. I whine about this everytime Disney releases another DVD, but I have never asked anyone else to confirm it on their own home players (NOT computer DVD players) and no one else has ever mentioned being bothered by this. But here's the problem....

Lion King, like all other Disney DVD releases of the last year and a half or so, is COMPLETELY unprogrammable on my DVD player. I have a 2 year old Sony DVP-NC600 5-disc changer and I cannot get Lion King to program in order to play either of the Feature Titles - Titles 35 or 36 (All Chapters). I don't mean playing through the Main Menu, I mean PROGRAMMING these specific titles to play by their title numbers. Furthermore, I cannot get either of these titles to repeat using the Title repeat function, nor can I program even a single chapter to play or repeat. If I try to do any of these things, the player clears the program mode and stops playing the disc.

Can one or more of you try this on your various home players to see if you can get any of these things to happen? I am not interested in whether or not computer DVD players can do it because they use different sorts of scripts, etc to accomplish these things and its not the same as trying it on a home player.

I am just trying to determine if it's just my model/make of player that has this problem or if it is intentional programming on Disney's part for some mysterious anti-piracy reason or something. I have sent my questions to Disney DVD directly about this and I'm waiting on a response to that.

Thanks for your help.

Yeah I was in a rich corinthian lather over here... :brick:

Actually the response was slow on more than this board so it was just frustrating. And to make matters worse, DisneyDVD hasn't gotten back to me either. But I did hear from a couple people elsewhere and the results are mixed so that tells me that it varies from player to player. That's all I really needed to know. I have had this gripe with the last several Disney releases (Sleeping Beauty especially) and it's nice to hear that some new hardware might solve my problem.

I'm curious to see how Woody's tests turn out. Woody, do you own another newer Sony perhaps? Another person with a Sony a little older than mine has had the same problem, so I'm now wondering if its a Sony thing or just the age of the players. Thanks for giving it a try.

Confirmed. My Sony DVP-NC600 can't be programmed either. However when I tried to use the program mode function the disk continued to play but a message pops up on the screen to inform me that the program function is not allowed. My other players (2 Phillips and Hitachi) did the same thing as well.

Buena Vista does some strange things on their DVD's. I presume it's for copy protection. As I recall, The Complete Goofy DVD's do not allow you to play all the cartoons automatically. You must manually select and play them one at a time.

Yeah that's right. The Goofy set doesn't have a Play All feature and neither does the B&W Mickey. The Color Mickey and Silly Symphonies sets do. Trying to program the Goofy & B&W Mickey sets is just crazy, too. No rhyme or reason to it. If the Donald and second Color Mickey sets don't have a Play All or allow any programming I'm going to have a heart attack. I think they're getting a little carried away with all of the big brother controls.

Thanks Woody for testing out all of your players. Another person on another board claims to have been able to program without a problem. So the verdict is still out on which players can do it and which can't.

Meega, nala kwishta!
I tried it on my Pioneer DV-47a Elite. No go, after programming it, and telling to play, it just sits their and does nothing. So it's deffinatly not a Sony only issue. BTW, my player is less than 1 year old.

Plus, with this excersize, I found that Disney (at least The Lion King DVD) has an alful lot of can't stop videos it plays, FBI, THX, Disney DVD, it was one after another and all menu features except eject were not allowd.

Grrrrrrrrr (Imagine a Stitch growl here :D )
