Playhouse Disney Live on Stage closing for refurbishment in early 2011

Stealing the "Jr" brand from Nick can be forgiven easily if Disney Afternoon shows Duck Tales, Rescue Rangers, Gummy Bears, and of course Darkwing Duck show up as regulars.

It would be a huge step toward the Vault Disney Channel that could KILL if ever launched.

Oh my God I love this idea! Love Love Love Duck Tales!

Yeah I often get up with my 3 year old son on the weekends and he loves to watch Playhouse Disney. But what I find weird is recently they have pushed it back and have it starting at 5AM(seriously, who gets up that early?) and ending at 8-9AM, which is when my son usually gets up. If it weren't for us having DisneyWest on Dish, my son would be stuck watching Phineas and Ferb in the mornings and I'd be stuck dealing with temper tantrums cause he wants to watch Clubhouse.

I just don't understand their need to force characters into retirement when they're still popular, my son still loves Little Einsteins, but we're hard pressed to find it on. Half the time its not even playing and the rest of the time it comes on at some god awful hour early in the morning.

I noticed this the other day. Pushing it back to 5a.m. and ending so early. Not sure what that is all about. :D

It would be nice if they put JoJo and Goliath back on Playhouse Disney. My oldest daughter loved that show when she was younger. They would fit in well with the whole Circus/Dumbo theme in the new fantasyland expansion.

Yep! In fact, I wonder if they'll put a meet and greet for them over there, as well....

‘Disney Junior – Live on Stage!’ Debuts at Disney Parks in 2011

Children and parents who now enjoy the popular “Playhouse Disney – Live on Stage!” at both Parks can look forward to sharing this new production, which brings back three audience favorites (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Handy Manny and Little Einsteins) and also introduces a brand new segment based on Disney Junior’s newest series that will debut in February 2011, “Jake and the Never Land Pirates.”

OMG, I love this! I grew up with those shows and would absolutely watch them with my kids. I know DS1 would love them for sure....He's a huge smurf's fan :)

I took my daughter to this show last year, and while she danced and had a blast I wondered what the old show was like (my daughter is only 3) and wondered if it would change again and how. I don't even see Little Einsteins or Tigger and Pooh on TV anymore, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse has been moved to the late morning time slot. Oso is hardly making any noise, (a mediocre show at best anyhow), so I can't help but wonder how Disney would re-vamp the show. I unfortunately don't have any suggestions.
Funny thing is, this refurb is happening during my next trip (1/25-2/1) and when I asked my daughter how she felt about Playhouse Disney Live on Stage being closed, she said to me it was okay...we'll go again next time. Then again, this is the same girl who's first WDW attraction was The Universe of Energy last year...I should never underestimate her!!

It's very rare to see Little Einsteins....I think they come on early in the morning maybe and I haven't seen My Friends Tigger and Pooh since we started watch PHD again!

Well, I guess it was too much to hope that they would be dropping Little Einsteins. I don't understand that decision (I'd think they'd keep Tigger and Pooh and drop the Einsteins, just because at least toddlers these days could associate Tigger and Pooh with Disney), but oh well.

My DD loved the original show, and I'm sure will love the new show when it's done. As Special Agent Oso, Chuggington, Jungle Junction, and some of the other mind numbing kids programming proves, kids will watch and enjoy almost anything. I know it's bad to say on a Disney related board, but as a parent of a child in this demographic, thankfully Yo Gabba Gabba exists.

Is it bad that I enjoy all the shows you just listed? LOL! I especially love Chuggington! :lookaroun

To each their own :). I think that there are things in each show that get on my nerves.

Chuggington I think is strictly because the term "Train-tastic" drives me bonkers for some reason. The rest of the show I have no issues with, but as soon as someone shouts that out, I am done.

Oso is getting better. The early episodes where Oso would forget something that Dottie / Wolfie said as soon as they said it ("Oso, in this assignment you need to look under the table for a microchip" ... "Ohhh, I was supposed to look UNDER the table"). Then they would send out the special stuffed bear to help some poor kid who's parent decided that they were too busy to help their toddler learn something ("I can't help you figure out how to tie your shoe Billy, I have to get ready for my date tonight"). Kind of made me want to shake the "parents" in those episodes. In the more recent episodes, they've changed it up a bit where Oso is not forgetting something, but figuring something out, that is more watchable to me.

Jungle Junction I just cant get. Here is a jungle, in the middle of a desert, where there are amputee animals-vehicle things with wheels instead of feet who have somehow built massive roads all over the jungle. At least it has a catchy theme song.

Again, I think those probably speak more towards my personal tastes than the quality of the programming. Here I am speaking the praises of a show where odd little monster toys come to life and dance around, strictly because it has good / great music that I can listen to and not be driven crazy.

And yes, as the parent of a toddler, I've put much too much thought into children's programming.

Why would they add something that hasn't even aired yet?

Because they don't have anything else!!!

They've killed off too many popular franchises and their replacements have bombed. I really wish they's add an hour to their programming that was a constant rotation of new episodes of older retired shows. When we first started watching Playhouse Disney, it was full of classic characters like JoJo, Bear, Johnny and the Sprites. Now, not so much.

I'm shocked LE is still in the show, but I imagine it's only because they don't have anything else to replace it with. It says a lot that they aren't putting Oso in the show.

As for the earlier ending to the PD block, I think they feel that Phineas and Ferb are a bridge between the two (older and younger programming), so they put that on for an hour after PD officially ends.
