Does anyone have a list of all the movies that Disney is planning to release in the Platinum Edition line? I recall working in the Crow's Nest in Adventureland, and there was a binder there that had a sheet with a list of those planned releases, but I don't recall what they all were. Can anyone help?

I know that Cinderella is being released this October 4th on DVD. Check www.ultimatedisney.com for a possible 'unconfirmed' list of releases. Cinderella is the Platinum Edition for this year for sure though...saw it on the new Chip and Dale DVD! My favorite Disney movie being released on my birthday, it doesn't get much better than that...well, I could be at WDW...but if not, it doesn't get much better than that! LOL

Yeah, I know we get Bambi in March and Cinderella in the fall, and possibly The Little Mermaid after that, but I'm not sure what all the rest were. I think one of them was Pinocchio, but I'm not sure.

I'm not sure when they are coming out, but we had a list at the Disney store when I was working there.

I know Bambi and Cinderella are this year. I know that the Little Mermaid and Pinnochio are coming out in the future. I also think that the Jungle Book and Peter Pan are in there. If I can find out from one of my friends that still works there, I will pass on the word. I do know that there are going to be 2 released every year now instead of the one that have been released for the past few years.

Ok! Thanks! Those sound familiar... Peter Pan just strikes me as an odd choice considering it had a double-disc set released already. Ah, stranger things have happened, though!

Wasn't Beauty and the Beast released already?

Yes it was but since then has been out of print. I'm disappointed I have to wait for such a long time.. :( This date is a new version of the DVD.

Although marked "Special Edition," Peter Pan was only a 1 disk release to coincide with the release of Return to Neverland 3 years ago.

These are the real "Platinum Edition" line-up and reasons why I think they became part of it

Snow White and the Seven Dwarves - The first and what many people say the best animated feature of all time. It was a huge blockbuster upon its realease and its re-releases.

Beauty and the Beast - The most critically acclaimed and the only animated feature to ever be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar.

The Lion King - The highest grossing traditionally animated film of all time and the highest grossing home video of all time.

Aladdin - One of the renaissance's big 4, it was the highest grossing animated film before The Lion King.

Bambi - The last of Disney's first 5, Bambi was a tremendous blockbuster in its time.

Cinderella - The first postwar animated feature and is one of the biggest hits of the 50's, Cinderella is a timeless classic that is consistently enjoyed by generations. Also ushered in the Golden Age of animation.

The Little Mermaid - The first real classic to come out of the Disney studios after Walt's time, The Little Mermaid jump-started the animation Renaissance and was the first to have songs that drove the story.

The Jungle Book - Walt Disney's last animated film, The Jungle Book was a huge financial and critical success for the studios.

101 Dalmatians - At the time, 101 Dalmatians featured ground-breaking technology and was a tremendous hit wiht the public.

Lady and the Tramp - One of Disney's 2 biggest hits of the 1950's and was the first to feature a more recent and real timeline.

Sleeping Beauty - Disney's most expensive movie and his last and favorite fairy tale, not to mention having a unique look and feel to it given by the "moving tapestry" look Disney commissioned for it.

Peter Pan - A timeless classic that has provided some of Disney's most memorable characters.

Pinnochio - Dubbed as the most technically perfect animated film of all time, Pinnochio is a classic that has endured the test of time.

Fantasia - Fantasia pushed the boundaries of animation and is one of Walt's best.

Apparently the main requirement to be part of the Platinum Collection is that the movie should have been a blockbuster at its time. which is why Pinocchio, Dumbo, Sleeping Beauty and Peter Pan are not part of the lineup. (Edited: Disney has already added Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, Fantasia and Pinnochio)

I think these following title should have been included:
Mulan - The last great musical and is also the last Disney heroine and is also the best example of Disney's diversity as it delves into a different culture.
Lilo and Stitch - The only big hit (except perhaps Mulan, which also in some deserves credit as something special) to come out of the post-Lion King era movies and is certainly one of the more unique disney movies out there.

Does anyone know what the "Alice in Wonderland: Masterpiece Edition" ranks as? Is it just a special edition or something else?

Thanks!

I think the Masterpiece Editions have a class of their own...Either that or they just renamed it the Special Editions (Sleeping Beauty, Mulan, etc...)
