I have a few shots at home of the orange bird at WDW that I will post later tonight. There were two different versions (one plush, one not).

Well guess what through the Magic of Disney I hold dear to my heart.. at the front gate there he was orange bird!!!! My father was speechless, I was 5 and remember him looking at my mother in amazement!! That's when they said Happy Birthday!!!

at the Sunshine Tree Terrace.

OK, maybe I'm showing a bit of age, but does anyone remember getting orange juice in a plastic orange-shaped cup at the Sunshine Tree Terrace after sitting through the Tiki Birds?? Also, they had a green plastic straw.

I guess I should've posted this under the "Things I Miss" thread that just went around, but I've just thought of it. Man, those were fun to drink out of....especially with the steel-drum band playing in the plaza....

although I'm not positive, i think it was the florida orange juice bird that had an orange for a head.

I remember having some of the orange cups when I was a kid, though I can't remember if they were gotten solely at WDW (since I went only once as a kid in 1976), or if they were also available at the Florida Welcome Centers (where they still serve complimentary orange or grapefruit juice, just not in a neat plastic cup). And I also remember the purple grape ones too. I bet my mom still has some of these cups stashed away somewhere.

Oh and BTW, I did see one or two offered on eBay a few weeks ago.

Also, anyone who remembers the orange bird cups are showing their age :)

That is right. The bird was created by Disney. Here is some info:

The Florida Orange Bird was designed by Disney for the Florida Orange Growers commercial sponsorship of the Sunshine Tree Terrace in Adventureland, Walt Disney World Florida. For many years the Orange Bird promised tourists two of Central Florida's greatest commodities, sunshine and fresh squeezed orange juice. Today, he no longer lives in the tree at the terrace and languishes in near obscurity on the Florida roadside stops such as citrus stands and souvenir shops. Hopefully this site among others will perpetuate the lovable bird's existance well into the future.

There was also an album sold at the parks but I don't remember that.

The Orange Bird is a full length LP that was sold at the Magic Kingdom as a souvenir when the park opened in October 1971. The jacket was like a storybook with ten pages of illustrations that coincided with the LP.

I remember the orange bird merchandice and still have some. I don't remember the other fruit being cups anywhere other than SixFlags and "other park" places.

Oh yes, I remember. And thanks, Mr.Toad, it was indeed Anita Bryant not Nannette Fabre.

I believe this was just before Anita got kicked out as the spokewoman for The Florida Citrus Growers for being too vocal about her homophobia!

Here are some shots of the walk around Orange Bird. Two different versions (I prefer the fuzzy one).

Wow awesome pictures!!

Thanks for sharing!

While I'm too young to "remember" this, I did have (well, I still have) an orange shaped cup, but it was Tropicana, not Disney. Does anyone have a picture of the cup itself so I can see if it's the same type? I can't seem to find any on ebay right now. Thanks!

I am sorry to hear about your father. I am glad the pics brought back good memories though. My parents are divorced and best memories I have of us as a family center around WDW. To this day, 9 times out of 10 when I speak to my father our trips come into conversation.

Happy memories are so important so never let them go.

If you want fullsize scans so you can print, let me know and I can email them to you.

I called my dad and sister, and they both remember the grape and orange cups too! Dad seems to think that Brookfield Zoo in Suburban Chicago, IL also had them for a short time.

My sister admited that she didn't really like the grape juice, but wanted the grape cluster shaped cup.

It's so funny that we all call each other about stuff like this......we are one weird family. :p

I realized I typed the wrong word. my above should say "my sister remembers them at the zoo" not dad. duh.

Yeah, and our family doesn't really talk about world issues (I do with my husband though). But we talk about the following....1)disney 2)american idol 3)lost and 4) amazing race. For topics that will surely start a rousing conversation.

oh, and sports. of the chicago/illini variety. but that is 5th on the list.

Also when the Crystal Palace was a Cafeteria not a character thing and Tonys Towne Square cafe was Oscar Meyer with the little person walked around as the chef.

I was beginning to believe that the Crystal Palace as a cafeteria was a figment of my imagination! Whenever I went with friends, and I think once with my parents, that's where I ate dinner! ( I started going with friends or school when I was about 12, so that would put it around 1980?)

Also, I remember the orange and grape cups. My dad would get one of each....I didn't like orange juice, but my sister did!
