Planning Your Disappointment ....

Maybe it's just me, but I've read a couple of threads recently where one person is disappointed about the weather, and another person is disappointed about the crowds.....I wanted to put my answer in but I saw one OP asking one person not to be so rude....So I didn't..However when we plan our 14 day vacation. We do not worry about the weather..We do not worry about crowds..If the skies open up..Let it be..If there's South American tour groups everywhere..So be it..:)....I feel lucky enough to get to be at a place where others only dream about going..So what's your take on this.?..Do you let certain things get you down, or do you just get on with having a magical time..:joyfull:...P.S. If any of the OP,s read this, please this is not a dig at yourselfs, I'am only interested how other people react to things that they hadn't planned on...Cheers..

Not everything is going to be perfect. Not everything is going to go your way.
From my trips to WDW, I remember being tired, but what I remember most is that I just got back from WDW!!!! It is the best time, ever. It probably rained, rides were closed that I really wanted to ride, lines were long, but you know what? It's life. Who knows how long you are going to be here on this earth....
Just like Master Yoda said...don't worry about the things you cannot control. Adapt to your situation at hand and enjoy your moment!
The only thing I griped about the entire trip to WDW was the wierd rental car I had to drive. But you know what? We got to turn that in!
Don't ruin a vacation because you are more concerned with what went wrong then the memories you made.

Some people just can't help but find something to complain about, no matter what they do. There are some things you can't control like the weather. You have to adjust to it and keep going. Outside of a hurricane, the weather is managable. It's hot and humid here, you know that. If you don't like the heat come in the fall or spring. Rain is part of Florida life, get a poncho and go, it won't last long anyways. Even the crowds you can somewhat control. If you go outside of holiday periods you can manage the crowds if you plan and get to the parks early. If you want to go during Christmas and New Year's you are going to have to deal with crowds. It's reality. It's a vacation enjoy the quality time with family and emerse yourself in the magic and fantasy world while you have the chance because you paid lots of money to be there and you'll be back to the daily grind before you know it.

Well, I try to plan my trip with the purpose and goal of trying to avoid the three major letdowns in WDW as much as possible so that complaining and griping is the least of my concerns.

In other words, if I loathe crowds, I try to plan visiting when the crowds are smaller if I could. If I'm forced to go during the crowded times of year, Spring Break or bust in my book! Like I've said, the crowds are huge but not unbearable during Spring Break! (Same can't be said during the summer months and Christmas-New Years!) I would do anything to go when the crowds are small but I'm not seeing that happening anytime soon in my life.

From a weather standpoint, I plan my itinerary based on the forecast. If it's not going to rain, off to MK or Epcot. If there's a chance of rain, HS, AK or take an off day if need be. For the most part, my strategy works. Since I have no intentions to go during the summer months where it's pretty much 90+ degrees, I don't have to fret too much about hot weather because I know my limits and I wouldn't last a second in 90+ degree weather. If by case, there's a hot day out of the blue, I try to just slow down and get enough rest in the parks. Nothing wrong with finding a place to sit away from the heat and just drinking some water for a couple of minutes. I don't have an exact set schedule so there's not really a must rush mentality so to speak! But if it rains by chance, which I've been fortunate to only happen once in my trips so far, then I'll need to take it with a grain of salt. As long as it's not a hurricane or an all day rain storm, it should be fine!

I do intensive research on ride refurbishments so that I know what rides are being shut down during what time and take that into strong consideration about planning because the last thing I want is to go when my favorites are shut down!

I understand in some cases, it's not possible to avoid one, two or even all the three of the most common WDW letdowns. (Crowds, weather and refurbishments in my book.) But like everyone said, there's just some things you can't control. Rather than focus so much on the negative, one should focus most on the positives.

So reading this thread all i can see is a load of affable happy go lucky people who plan for the worst and just roll with it when something goes wrong.I haven't yet seen anyone from the other side of the street explain why they are disappointed with vacation. It would be interesting(to me anyways) to hear the flip side of the coin and see if anyone can give a cognitive reasoning why their trip was ruined.
We have had to deal with all sorts over the years ;
Honeymoon cancelled whilst sitting at Gatwick airport on the morning of our flight to MCO.
(we re-booked for 3 instead of 2 weeks for the following May for a very small surcharge)
Vastly empty parks
(September the first couple of years after the towers)
Tour groups
(not as annoying as School trips in our experience but kids will always be kids no matter where they are from)
Arriving at the hire car desk to find my Drivers licence was out of date
(Taxi !!)
and many more things and whilst these things have been an issue at the time they happened we have always just let it go and enjoyed the Holiday as in the grand scheme of things they are not that Important.
What is important is that myself and my DW are together and in good health at our favorite holiday spot in the world.

Ah...the rain's nice when that humidity finally becomes just too much...not to mention you get a little (or sometimes a lot) of sprinkle on your person and you duck into the Hall of Presidents and enjoy a short refreshing blast of air conditioning on the wet clothes...it takes that humid edge off! And then Morgan Freeman toasts your brainwaves with his voice...it's a good break!

I guess my only gripe is the occasional culture clash where these Japanese tour groups like...cut in line in front of you or cut you off...but it's more my wife's beef than mine...I just go with it...like you, I'm just glad as can be to be there...I'm from Indiana...it's not like I can just pop in and out of there like some of the Kissimmee folks!

Love the post...thanks for some glass-half-full-ness... :)

Good Morning @MR FERRET ...I think the reason ( apart from the two OP's ) that no one is going to gripe is 95% of people who plan a WDW vacation realise that certain things like crowds or weather is something they can't change when they get there??...It's not like I'am planning our first vacation in October instead of July, and when I get there the skies open up,or I meet 500 Brazilian kids on my first day..Who am I going to complain to?.. God.....No..I just smile and thank God for getting me here safe..It's a bit like myself some mornings, getting up and my back is a bit sore, or I've a pain in my neck.:in pain:..There's always someone off worse than myself..I just get on with it...;)

OMG....:jawdrop:....That's it...Cancel the trip......If I can't get the parks all to myself, why the Hell go....It's just not fair...:arghh:.....I'am booking Greenland...It's empty...Well apart from the sheep.......or even Sark..There's only about 600 folk..
LOL i wouldn't inflict Sark on you good sir ;)
It may however change our choice of time to visit and forego the halloween desecrations.(Plus the fact that we seem to get a lot of foggy days locally and that would put a downer on the trip if we can't get off our little rock )

I try not to stress about stuff I can't control; weather and ride breaks. Crowds are not totally avoidable but you can plan around peak season and go to a recommended park to maximize your time and avoid a 120 minutes waiting times.

Besides, you're at WDW, you could be at home, stuck at work... even the worst day at Disney is better than a average day at home.

It doesn't bother me, it is always sunny in my world!!!! UK visitors go for at least 14 nights so a bit of rain or queues don't matter so much as we can try again another day. If you are only going for 3 or 4 nights you want to squeeze as much as you can in that time. See there are benefits of the 9 hour flight.

You forget most American's do not get paid holiday, Or they are too afraid of being laid off to use the paid holiday they are granted so they let it lapse. The United States is the ONLY country in the developed world without paid or unpaid holiday as a legal right.
