Planning for kid..how long should I assume FP lines will be?

Like everyone said, they average 5-10 minutes with the rare few being 15 minutes or more. But here's a question I have...why are you worried about prepping her for 5-10 minute FP waits? I've waited in grocery store check-out lines that are longer, as I'm sure you and your daughter have. Are you not concerned about waiting an hour or two in the stand-by lines at all? Just slightly confused...

Only saw CMs look at FP tickets 50% of the time. So they are obviously NOT enforcing the FP times across the board. It seemed to be haphazard enforcement, roughly half the time. When they did look at the ticket, the FP lines were nonexistent. When you handed them the ticket and they never even glanced at them, that was then the FP line was 15-20 minutes long. Seems to me if they enforce the FP times on the tickets, everybody will be happier. Why get a FP if you aren't going to be back at the time it tells you it will be before you even get one?

20 to 30 minutes would be a safe assumption. It really depends what time of the year your going. We were there in January of this year and had FPs for Buzz and waited about 10 minutes. Just depends.

Never said I was prepping her for a 5-10 minute FP wait. I only mentioned 30+ minutes. I personally will never do a 60-120 minute standby line. If I can't do better than that by arriving early, planning my day or getting a FP, I won't ride the ride. We waited the longest when they weren't enforcing FP times. We waited under 5 minutes when the were enforcing the FP lines. Go figure...simple math to me. Enforce the FP times and there's no wait.

Just got back Sunday. Longest we waited in standby was maybe 30 minutes. Longest wait in FP line was 20-25 minutes. The way we did it each day worked great for us: Arrive 30-40 minutes prior to rope drop, grab a FP as soon as the park opens to a popular ride, then ride our most important "must do" rides instantly. At MK in particular, we rode 6 rides the first hour the park was open! It really worked well for us. I will never do WDW without arriving at parks prior to opening. At HS, they opened the park at 8:30. We were getting on and off of rides before 9:00 even hit. The rest opened at their normal times. We also avoided the EMH parks. I think that helped us a lot with crowds. AK was the worst for crowds. We ended our day around 1:00, went to our pool, then Downtown Disney. Great day. We had a wonderful time, and the crowds we heard people screaming and crying about (literally) are manageable if you have a plan and get there early. We saw people arriving at noon, when full-blown chaos was already ensuing and FP were gone for the most popular rides.
