Planet Hollywood - Remember when it was cool?

Interestingly enough, their mission statement is as follows
  • We have a passion for our guests
  • We care about our associates
  • We do not compromise our high standards
  • We maintain a sense of urgency in everything we do
  • We continuously strive to improve
  • We are team players
Maybe someone should stop by their office in Orlando and show them pictures of what the "outside" of their high standards looks like now?

They just never got a new crowd hooked. The gimmick was ok, but it got stale. They didn't get any new names since Bruce Willis and Sylvester Stallone. Yeah, they may still sell some tickets, but nothing really blockbuster ish. I do have to admit, it has to be pretty hard to find new props to put in place since everything in movies now is computer generated. "Look Ma!! It's the computer they used to render the background for Avatar!"

I remember the days when the line for Planet Hollywood spanned over the bridge to the entrance. It was a very popular choice, but like the entire chain PH lost its luster over the years.

This makes me very sad to hear. We usually go in Planet Hollywood every trip but were thinking of giving it a miss this year, partly because the food is pretty expensive and not spectacular, and the memorabilia hasn't changed for years. This thread has just confirmed my decision to avoid the place this year, but I have had some great memories in the place, so it will be sad to just walk by without walking up those famous red-carpeted stairs!

I'm surprised Disney doesn't step in and try and force them to get it back to it's former self. It used to be the spot to go go for dinner at DTD. Now, it's an afterthought.

Agreed. Plus I gotta say, I feel like the quality of the food went downhill. They run a deal for cm's, your name gets put to the top of the waiting list, I can understand why. Meanwhile, when I did go during my cp, there was never a wait.

I was about to say, what waiting list? Haven't seen a wait there in a long time. Rainforest and T-Rex on the other hand...

I really don't understand what the current owners are thinking playing music videos at a movie themed restaurant. That'd be like going to Hard Rock and them only showing movie clips. Makes no sense.

At least hard rock has good food!

I don't really remember it ever being cool. I was a teen in the nineties, and back them I thought it was a joke. Now, I just think it's kind of sad and a bit of an eye sore. I wouldn't care at all if I heard that Disney wanted to tear it down. I've been saying that it needs to go while walking past it for years now.

I don't think it should be torn down. It looks great at night. It simply needs new management, or current management to get their heads out of their butts.

I just have never found any aspect about it appealing. There are so many better dining options in Downtown Disney now that it makes it seem antiquated, like they forgot to raze it when they leveled Pleasure Island. It is a sad relic from that era. It is slightly embarrassing to see it look so put of place in what is rapidly becoming a much more contemporary destination.

So, sure, give new management a chance, but it needs a whole lot more than just a menu revamp and some new paint. It needs an entire concept overhaul.

Unwritten mission statement:

We will expose our customers to Rocky's butt.

Was at DTD last weekend and it is in serious need of some lovin'. Have not been inside to eat there since 2002 when we had a MYW pass to the front of the line and a free shot glass or hat.

I used to eat at Planet Hollywood pretty regularly, not because it was spectacular - but because it was a pretty easy place to go in and eat at Disney. The food was pretty good, and the prices reasonable. After their incredible price hike a couple years ago - I will probably never be back. I can't imagine they are doing well either - they recently placed a billboard on I-4 near Universal. I don't know that I have ever seen Disney property restaurants advertise on billboards before.

omg yes! they had one in my hometown of chicago that was amazing! then it slipped and eventually closed, as did almost all of them. i only know the one in dtd and new york city is still there. heck they even tried to open a planet hollywood casino in vegas a while ago. i don't know how it turned out. also i believe an episode of vh1's i love the 90s featured its concept, grand opening, and whats left of it now.
