There is no universe where Toy Story Mania should be considered an E Ticket. It's not even the most impressive ride in Toy Story Land much less Hollywood Studios or theme parks in general. It's D at best. I haven't ridden Web Slingers but it honestly looks slightly better. It looks less like riding around a warehouse with screens set up and it's cool you can use your hands without having to touch a controller. That said it doesn't look all that great either. It's also a C, D if we're absolutely pushing it.
I'm not even being disrespectful to either ride both are fun (web slingers seems fun at least unfortunately it's compared to one of the greatest rides ever which stars the same superhero) and have their place but saying TSM is an E ticket is saying it is comparable to Tower of Terror and Rise of the Resistance which is simply not true in my opinion. But of course you're entitled to your opinion as well I just think most people will strongly disagree.

It had the highest guest survey ratings of any ride at Walt Disney World from 2008 to 2017 and still remains high, so I’m inclined to think that most people would actually agree with me. It is an incredibly well-executed ride from start to end that nails its pacing and emotional beats in a way that Hallways of the Resistance often struggles to.

What emotional beats are in Toy Story Mania besides when they count your score at the end? I think the ride that is just a bunch of screens in a warehouse is much more of a "Hallway" ride than Rise is lol.
But if the guests like it the most they like it the most. Would never be an E Ticket in my opinion though.

Of course it did. It was one of the few rides most in the family could ride…and it was the NEWEST attraction.

So people were wrong about making this area for cast members? Still, I feel like everything at DHS is temporary until star wars land is completed and more demolition starts.
they don't appear to be adding anything in the next 5 years....so I think we can say that Star Wars Land is complete.... for the foreseeable future......

I don’t really think Toy Story land lives up to its potential. It seems like TSL is DHS’s “kiddie land” and it misses the mark. Mainly capacity issues, there should be no reality where Swirling Saucers is as busy if not more busy than Midway Mania. Also, the rides take up more space than they should, the land is over 10 acres and only fits in 3 rides. To be fair Radiator Springs at DCA is 11 acres and only has 3 rides, but they also built a whole entire recreation of the town along with a massive facade for the main ride. Meanwhile, TSL just has rides and one pathway. What I’m saying is that the land needs to utilize its space a whole lot better. It would be hard but maybe expand the land east, and add new flat rides and maybe even a C-Ticket dark ride.

To be fair, Cars Land and Toy Story Land were done with vastly different budgets and purposes. Cars Land was the high-budget anchor of the Disney California Adventure expansion (equivalent to Galaxy's Edge being the high-budget anchor of the Disney's Hollywood Studios expansion). Toy Story Land was designed to quickly and inexpensively add capacity. So, the likely counterfactual situation to the existence of Toy Story Land is not something like Cars Land, but no addition at all.

That being said, there are certainly plausible arguments for having used the space better within the same budget confines, e.g., maybe there should have been more areas to walk around and explore, maybe they should have built two smaller rides in lieu of Slinky Dog Dash, etc.

As for former Pixar Place / former Municiberg city block / current Pixar Plaza, I wish they'd add just a smidge more placemaking to give the feeling that it's... well... a place. I appreciate the "City Place Apartments" signage retained from Municiberg, and wish they'd lean into that kind of stuff a bit more even though it's no longer a specific place.

IMHO Slinky Dog Dash is a fail. Capacity is poor leading to looooong waits for an average and very short ride. In its place they could have built a large dark ride (size of TSMM) and still had plenty of room for a large walkthrough/play area which could have even had another flat ride or carousel or something for little kids as well. An omnimover dark ride plus TSMM (with the extra track now) would have been a huge win for capacity and several flat rides and/or a play area would have provided more for the toddler crowd too.

I agree with all of this. My biggest complaints about TSMM is lack of things to explore and lack of shade. They could/should have worked in more interactive areas. The concept of being shrunk to the size of toys and dropped in Andy’s backyard has endless possibilities. Some of the props in the queues and around the land are fun to look at but it would have been much cooler if you could interact or play with them. I think the land would have been a perfect spot for a classic play area.

This is why I was hoping they'd have an expansion pad for another ride or 2 back there.. Triceratops Spin Themed to Trixie is a no Brainer...

The lack of areas to explore is 100% the biggest issue in the land. A play area and splash pad would add so much to the area

There is no room behind the land. There’s a road there. One side next to Slinky and Woody‘s BBQ is a parking garage (circled in blue below) which I assume is not going anywhere right now while the other side behind SWGE (circled in red) there are some backstage buildings but I have no clue how needed they are. Here’s the map:

I think the area you circled in red is part of the SWGE expansion pad, and it would be hard to use for TSL since the connection would block the backstage road that goes all the way to Grand Avenue. And I agree that the parking garage you circled in blue isn't a likely candidate for replacement in the near future.

It's interesting that they didn't seem to include an expansion pad for TSL (unless you count the BBQ restaurant space?). I guess it's because TSL isn't the type of environment that lends itself to adding an e-ticket that would draw people into the park and thus have a clear/direct ROI?

It's also funny that the design of TSL and SWGE (which were of course parts of the same DHS expansion project) basically forced Pixar Place to become a dead-end with no space for serious additions, either. It's almost impossible to imagine any way they could do something that area - unless they made the whole thing into one attraction (built a building where the street currently is), or made it into a restaurant or food court? It's such a weird corner they backed themselves into - literally!

It's already a giant size Toy...A Top spinner..
TriceraTop-Spin_Full_47600.jpg
I mean, its design references a top spinner, but it doesn’t literally come across as one in the manner that the current TSL design attempts to accomplish for its existing items (even recognizing that TSL accomplishes that aim with mixed success). So it would be a step down in the already-imperfect level of TSL immersion.

They could have used the pathway that was Pixar Place as the entrance into SWGE but by doing that they would have made TSL another dead end in a park full of dead ends. Pixar Place and/or Metroville is probably best served housing meet and greets or small food offerings. There’s not much else you could fit in there.

I don’t think they intended TSL to be expanded beyond what is there. Slinky takes up a great deal of the available real estate. I think we’re stuck with what we have. I agree the red area is more likely to be used for SWGE but that’s the only practical place to expand TSL. The road there already crosses the path that leads into SWGE so it could be left the same but they would take down the gate there now leading backstage and the gate would be relocated further back towards Cypress Drive. The gate is circled in red below and could be moved back to the second red circle and that leaves the area occupied by the green roof building and if needed the parking lot next to it for TSL expansion.

Good idea for an expansion of the land, but I was kind of hoping the land would be used for a Galaxy’s Edge expansion. I know that expanding TSL to give it more flat rides could help the park out with its capacity issue, but I really want that Mandalorian coaster. Maybe SWGE could receive a people mover dark ride going around a new expansion area, giving the park a nice Omni-mover ride. If we were to use the Vekoma F.L.Y. coaster type, the ride could soar over an expanded outpost section and the ride would use an Omni-mover boarding system. But I do understand people’s sentiment about wanting the park to focus on more dark rides though.

100% agree that the expansion pad should be used for SWGE at some point. I think TSL is what it is….unless they demo the parking garage as part of a much larger AC park expansion. There was talk years ago of relocating CM parking across the highway and building an overpass into the backstage area of the park. That sounds expensive so unlikely to happen just to add to TSL. If part of a larger project down the road….maybe possible.

I‘d love a people mover type ride around SWGE but they never built it. I’d still love to see it but not holding my breath. I’m not in favor of more coasters in general but SWGE has 2 dark ride type attractions already. If anything could use a thrill ride it’s actually SWGE. If they expand I think it’s more likely to be a table service restaurant and maybe some meet and greet areas and/or new Jedi training to eventually replace the loss of launch bay.

As far as Pixar Place pathway, maybe they could use it as the staging area for the start or end of a new parade in the park. Maybe go from front entrance area past the Great Mickey Ride and end at Pixar Place. Only problem is the steps there so need a work around. I’m just throwing stuff out there. I’ve heard nothing about a plan for a parade at the park but it would provide additional entertainment especially for little kids and they have had some version in the past.
