Pixar Pals Parking Structure Specifics/Updates

When the guests see the long lines to board a tram, they will walk! Remember that the current Tram system is not growing, it is already at its maximum operation due to speed limits and required gaps for safety.

So IMHO, a majority will be walking, which of course is what Disney wants, great way to increase DtD shopping traffic.
Walking is better for you anyways.

It just depends how long you’re there waiting for the tram. With a wait of a few minutes, the tram will for sure be faster. Ever since they started making you walk through all of DTD, I’ve mostly taken the tram.
I know it seems weird, and possibly even counterintuitive, but sometimes after a long day at the parks, the last thing I wanna do at night is wait 3 rounds for a tram. I'd much rather just walk back.

Which is why I wonder why they can't give AP/Flex pass holders an option to enter and exit through Critter Country as a shortcut. That's lot of walking that could be avoided.

Because of a lot of reasons, but a couple of main ones. The way they open the park, they want everyone to enter through Main Street. For Merchandise and Food Sales, they want everyone to enter through Main Street and go by World of Disney. They want to try and get you to go to DCA.

I can't wait for a Disney version of a Fitbit to be available for sale at the Parking Structures

Maybe they'll install a new feature in the Park App that also tracks your steps and encourages you to walk more if you've spent too much time dining or in shows.

We pretty much always walk back to the garage. After being on my feet/walking around for hours, standing in one spot for the tram would cause much arthritis pain. Walking slowly actually hurts less than standing.

Whether we tram or walk in kinda depends on who I'm with. My husband always wants to tram and my adult son usually wants to walk.

For every 10 miles walked you get a 1% discount off merchandise....

Yeah same. If its just me and a friend, walk all the way. But if I'm with family, plus a stroller and small children, they want to take the tram.

But I'm like you, if I've been walking for that long, it's not that much to just keep walking a bit further and finally stop and relax in the car.

There’s a way to mitigate those concerns. Wait until 10am or 2 hours after park opening. Does not work with EMH or special events. Have a reservation system so a small percentage (like 25%) can use the alternative gate. In any case, directly exiting the park to the parking lot is a much better solution for most people.

Opening the gate at a later time doesn't mitigate any of the concerns over merch and food sales or increasing interest in DCA that @Darkbeer1 mentioned.

Disney WANTS people to have to pass through their shops and dining places as they enter and exit the parks. If Disney wanted guests to just have the shortest, most convenient trip back to their cars, don't you think they'd have designed it that way?

AP and Flex Passholders don’t need more enticement to sell items. By going with the reservation system for the Flex pass, they aren’t park hopping anymore. They will go to DCA without further enticement.

They already spend a lot of money. Freeing up tram space for tourists and day trippers is showing better customer service.

Maybe they should have designed it that way with a do over, but this is the way things are now.

Not sure what point you're trying to make...

Darkbeer said Disney doesn't want a gate directly into the parking structure because it limits guests interaction with shops and dining options.

Your idea to mitigate those concerns was to have the proposed direct gate... open later?

Now your rebuttal is to say that AP's already spend a lot of money at the parks?

This shows a lot of ignorance like you can’t read.

Guests is a broad term. I said those that will use the new gates will only be restricted to AP/Flex Passholders with reservations that allow them to use those gates. Plus they already spend a lot of money so it’s not necessary to entice them to go through Main Street and clog up the trams at the loading zone by the park entrance.

Disney also has their opening ceremonies and rope drop. The alternative gate won’t be opened then.

You still don't get that if Disney wanted this for their AP/Flex Passholders (see, I didn't use guests cause I can read good) they'd have set it up already. As it is, any "gate" directly to the parking structure would require re-tooling backstage areas where there is already limited space thanks to SWL.

Keep on dreaming though!
