It's also why Star Wars has leaned so heavily into big female characters, we will see a rise in female led superhero films. They are realizing the demographics are there and want to see equal representation in their properties instead of the Eisner minded buckets of X franchise for girls, Y franchise for boys.

Grumpy fans have literally zero to do any of it. Guests will love the M&G and 90% of obsessed AP's. Anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.

The problem with these kinds of films is that they just end up feeling derivative of their original "male-cast" versions. They're not offering anything new, its just, "its like _________, but with females".

I meant in that she's a non-existing character not from any film or tv show. They could have just as easily put Penelope Cruz's character in or Elizabeth Swann, but here we are. Not worth arguing over... it's a character meet and greet that'll probably last all of a month.

Agreed. I gave Ghostbusters a fair shot, but man, that was just an awful awful movie and had nothing to do with the fact that they were all women. It was just a stinker. And as for Oceans 8... I don't even know what to say. That was one of the worst trailers I ever saw in my life.

Arriving soon at Disneyland park is a fierce and independent pirate known as Redd. A bit mysterious by nature, Redd travels to various ports throughout the Caribbean—selling rum and collecting coin, and will soon be taking a journey to visit with guests in New Orleans Square.

We caught up with this seemingly familiar redhead and asked her a few questions.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Well, if I needed friends, they’d call me Redd. Pirates call me ‘Rrr’ for short. I been ‘round the world, but the sea is always home.
Do you know Captain Jack Sparrow?
That Sparrow owes me a new ship. Wouldn’t be surprised if he found himself in irons once more. If you see Mister Sparrow, I’m lookin’ for ‘em!
Some pirates think it’s bad luck to have a woman aboard a pirate ship. What do you think?
T’is far worse luck not to.
What is treasure to you?
Coin o’course! I accept it all—Spanish doubloons, English farthings, French livre, Dutch lion dollars and Portuguese moidore.
Are you looking forward to meeting guests in New Orleans Square?
I s’pose. I be searching for brave sorts of recruits for a few little ventures.
