Pirates refurb dates released

Pirates of the Caribbean *is* long and tedious. That's not a bad thing. If you're pretentious like I am, that just makes the ride better.

If you're getting bored on a theme park ride, then that's your problem. ...Perhaps it's because we live in a society where we are overstimulated by screens.... I find POTC to be an extremely meditative experience, and I'm the one with the ADHD. There's been times I've gotten off POTC just to go back on it (although that's because I consider the right and left sides of the boat to be two separate ~experiences~).

If you think POTC is boring I hate to break it to you, but you're the boring one.

Please never trash talk my son again.

It's ridiculous. It's as if WDI can't have any slow moments, or simple moments. Everything has to be firing at all cylinders the entire time- which in turn lowers the quality of the show.

Sheesh, I dislike one small part of the show. I didn't say the whole thing is deeply flawed. Surely everyone here can identify some piece of PoTC or another classic attraction that they think could be improved. You people are not to be believed sometimes.

Haunted Mansion needs more scenes before Madame Leota. WDW's build up to the ballroom scene is way better than ours.

That comment wasn't directed towards you, it was a complaint about the Davy Jones addition and just a general observation about how imagineering has shifted over the last few decades.

Yay! Late to another conversation! I just want to say that I believe the cave scene is an integral part of the ride. It bridges the moody atmospheric bayou scene with the loud, action-packed battle sequence. I feel as though any major changes to this area/ might affect the flow of the attraction.

One last quick note, I am reeeeeeeeeally hoping that the DL Redhead animatronic (and the auction scene in general for that matter!) is more to the original refurb concept than the WDW version is.

It could be said that WDI has shifted because public tastes have shifted.

I think it's a combination of both. Having ups and downs in storytelling is essential- if you throw everything you can at every scene, there's no way to maintain tension or have a finale. It limits your options. The Haunted Mansion would be very different if every scene was like the ballroom, for example.

Yes, the public demands different attractions and effects today than they did in the '60s, but the basic tenants of good ride design remain, and have been even more refined.

Right now, WDI is riding the high of all the new possibilites the 21 century has offered- projection mapping, better computers, etc.- and are anxious to show off their new tech in everything- but are still figuring out the kinks and it's impact on attraction and show storytelling.

This is one of the biggest things that I think a lot in the fandom haven't accepted. Too many have romanticized the parks and think that the public wants the same things they want, and thus unless every attraction is like their favorites from the 1960s it fails.

And just with all new tech and techniques there will be hits and misses.

Just heard from a close source that the redhead in our version is going to be replaced by an older version of Merida from a new Brave sequel now-in-development where the story involves her leaving home and joining a crew of scrappy pirates. Plans are to introduce more characters at a later date.

I'm actually kidding of course but I want to see who takes the bait and throws a hissy fit.

Even though my heart holds the classic 1960's attractions as the pinnacle of WDI, I also do acknowledge that there are plenty of attractions that have been built since that maintain the same level of quality and storytelling despite being completely different rides such as Big Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain (although a case very easily could be made that Splash is entirely in the same vain as POTC), the original Star Tours, Indiana Jones Adventure, and Tower of Terror. I'm also hopeful that Galaxy's Edge's attractions are equal to the quality of Indiana Jones Adventure in their easy to understand storytelling, immersion, and set pieces. While I do greatly appreciate these attractions and I find them to be wonderful additions to the parks, I think there is no denying that Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, and "it's a small world" are three of these most iconic and beloved attractions in Disneyland currently so I do believe it's completely reasonable to have an attraction built today in the same style would be a success.

I actually think you could make an argument that Tokyo has the best PotC now. Really the only thing that DL has over it is that it's original. Tokyo has none of the PC changes (except the Pooped Pirate), and a somewhat expanded arsenal scene.

Shanghai doesn't have a Pirates of the Caribbean attraction and should never be part of the conversation. It's the same when discussing Haunted Mansion, Mystic Manor is not part of the family.
