when i rode last week, the mist and projection were not working but the mermaid projection in the water was working. this is the first time i have seen it without the mist and projection. it needs something there as it is almost 30 seconds of just nothing which at the start of a ride seems like forever.
That's an ironic statement, as it ran for how many years with absolutely nothing there at all till after the PoTC movies were released?

My underwear is always soaking wet riding PoC. and I don't even get splashed.

They should probly add some chainsaws. People enjoy hearing and smelling gas powered tools while on vacation, right?

Was there not a series of waterfalls in the area prior to the installation of the screens?

ummm... correct?
all i meant is that if either are non-functional then they turn off BOTH; no sense running a mist screen with nothing displaying... nor a projector putting the image on the wall BEHIND the boat

So my best guess would be that they are having problems with the mist screen, since a projector is (relatively) inexpensive and easily replaced... screen, not so much

So after riding it today I couldn't help but notice that the hologram of Blackbeard wasn't on and the projections of the mermaids in the water weren't working as well. Do you all sense that disney may be getting rid of that part?

No, it's likely just broken. Better traction has not had a major rehab in five years. It's in desperate need of it.

You guys are silly. You forget that in order to have effects working properly and in tandem one must SPEND money, not hoard it for themselves.

I rode POTC two or three times in the past few weeks. I noticed that the lightning was not working in the scene with the skeleton at the ship's wheel. It's somewhat unfortunate, because without the lightning you can't really see what's going on.

It's sad too hear so many things wrong with POTC. And I'm also confused on the everyone taking fash pictures. One, it exposes things that shouldn't be seen in the ride (hence a dark ride) and two, it ruins the experience for everyone else riding. Why can't people be curteous? *facepalm*

I think the subject of flash pictures on rides has to be one of the most discussed topics on any Disney forum. The last time I rode POTC, there were so many people in the boat ahead of me taking flash pictures that the show scenes looked like they were in a '70s disco.

I keep wishing they would put Barbosa on the screen mist, with his quote/speech from the fourth movie:

Aye. Mermaids. Sea ghouls, devilfish…dreadful in hunger for flesh of man. Mermaid waters, that be our path. Cling to your soul as mermaids be given to take the rest, to the bone. Gentlemen. I should not ask any more of a man than what that man can deliver, but I do ask this: are we not King’s men? On the King’s mission? I did not note any fear in the eyes of the Spanish as they passed us by. ARE WE NOT KING’S MEN? Hands aloft, and bear away! Stave on ahead to Whitecap Bay!

Because people are not curious towards others. Also because they have no idea how to spot meter off their camera.
