Pirates Mermaid Effect

When exactly did the mermaid effects end? I know the projection of the mermaids stopped happening shortly after they began, but what about the tails flipping?

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen tails here and there over the past couple of years and was wondering if they’ve ever “officially” stopped? Is it a “sometimes on maybe sometimes off” kind of effect or has it been completely removed?

Around a couple years ago I think. The tails flapping are actually just a mechanism that moves the water.

Knowing how management and maintenance works for this particular attraction...? I don't doubt that they got lazy and just didn't want to fix it.

Do any current cast members know if these water mechanisms (“tails”) are still going off? Or have they been removed? I feel like I’ve still seen them go off every now and then LOL!

I think they stopped sometime around 2015-16, but not 100% sure.

Ah, yes. The mermaid.

It was one of the most disappointing additions to any attraction. I never actually saw a "mermaid", just a weird glow under the water.
Looked like a bioluminescent sea slug.

Or Mothra 2019.

Anyway. It was a crap effect and I won't miss it one bit.
