Pirates closing?

Is it true that Pirates will be closed starting Sept 1st? My brother just got back and said the last day he was there they were closing it to update with the "movie" figures. Any truth to this rumor?

i dont think they will be closing permenately.. they may be shut down during certain times to refurbish the ride. The ride needs to be updated... it is a little out of date. But who knows, we will see what happens

I kinda think it would be cool to somehow blend the new movie in with the old ride. I don't think it would be cool to go and screw up the classic though. It would be kinda cool to see a new Potc ride based on just the movie. Maybe a high tech dark ride or something. But being realistic, does it make much sense to have 2 pirates of the carribean rides? NO.

I love POTC! It's my favorite ride. Chances are it's not going to be open when I go in December is it?

Well we go sept 12th so hope its open then. I love that old ride it was the first ride that i went on on my first visit to mk in 1991 so heres hoping 9 days and counting to leave dreary Liverpool England for the magic of florida

Thanks to all who replied. We will be there from the 8th until the 26th of September and Pirates is one of our favorites. It is one of those rides that you look at the person next to you (only if they are a Disney lover like yourself) and say "We are actually here!" I hope it is open and I hope my brother was mistaken or the cast member who relayed that info was mistaken. Thanks again.

PS: Sorry for the confusion with the title of this thread I should have said closing for refurbishment.

I'm going in the end of November and I hope Pirates isn't closed then either. Hopefully, it won't be closed at all, but rather take short periods of closing the ride during certain days. I think that would be the best idea, becuase Pirates is one of the most popular rides and a ton of people would be upset if they just closed it.

Unfortunately they do not do refurbs like that. One, it would take way too long to complete, and two, with the refurbing of AA's (characters), you cant just pop them in and out of the attraction. They are very delicate and require extreme care....

My thought is you are not going to see any major refurbs of Haunted Mansion or Pirates until either after Christmas or until closer to the end of 50th Celebration...
