Pirates breaks ride attendance record?

I don't think people are understanding. Spaceship Earth set the record in 1992. Pirates broke it in 2007. There is no need for a comparison for 2007 nor does it matter that SE was closed for part of 2007.

I think it matters from the standpoint of maybe the record would not have been broken had SSE been open all year to have a chance of keeping the record itself.

Edit: Maybe I should have said "breaking" the record itself, just to be clear that I think it still matters from that standpoint alone.

I guess I'm not understanding how the record goes. I probably am not interpreting what mousemerf was writing. My interpretation is that SSE has held the record every year since 92; meaning SSE has had the most riders every year compared to other rides. That's why I asked how can POTC beat it when it was closed for so long?

It sounds like your interpretation, and probably the correct one, is that in 1992 SSE grabbed the the record for the most riders ever and that record wasn't broken until this year with POTC. Then you would be correct that SSE's numbers for this year wouldn't matter.

So would the two who saw the info please inform me of which interpretation is correct? Thanks!

I think that covers it so lets look forward to SSE getting back that record at the end of 2008.:animwink::D Once I move down I am willing to ride it at least 300 or so times to do my part.:lookaroun

Spaceship Earth? Ridership records?

Sorry folks, hate to tell you, but due to Spaceship Earth's rather depressed number of people it gets in the late evening, it doesn't really match up to the real rider powerhouse that is:

it's a Small World - The number one attraction every year, except for its refurb year, when the title went to:

Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin

The second one is correct. SSE broke the record in '92 and nothing matched it until '07 when PotC then broke it.

My understanding is that recently Soarin' had taken over the most viewed attraction at Disney World. Despite it's height requirement and lower capacity, it is made up for by having a queue that has to stay open longer. With that said, the "record" very well could have been SSE in '92. If that's the case, it's not surprising that an updated of Pirates of the Caribbean overtook it.

^It is a press release that was sent to Cast Members. It was brief and did not include details on how it was calculated or what the official numbers were. There was also an image of the Pirates cast.

Congrats to pirates. I am sure the cast members there must be very proud to breaking the record. Even though POTC may now own the record, SSE is still the most visited attraction on property. More than 85% of all guests who visit WDW ride SSE at some point during their visit due to its high capacity, no height requirement, its slow moving nature and its usually lack of a queue.

Not sure how to read this statistic.

Pirates is arguably much more popular than it was in years past, as the waits in both sides of thee queue will attest, with both the new upgrades and the popularity of the movies.

But SSE was also closed from essentially September onward. So it's kind of hard to judge the validity of the numbers (granted that I can't remember if pirates was open all year long, or if part of the refurb closure was this year).

But you need to look at what year this record was set, the SSE record was from 1992, a record that had stood for 15 years.

There are very few attractions, that based on how many guest can ride a ride can even come close the numbers of guest these rides do, let alone hit those kinda of numbers.

Yeah, I misinterpreted the statistic... I was taking it to mean that SSE had the highest yearly numbers every year for the past however many years. In actuality, it seems that SSE set the record in 1992, and that nothing (including SSE) had touched those numbers since.

By the way, Mythbuster... I'm familiar with THRC, but what's the OHRC? Operational? (Actual)?
